The Grandpa You Didn't Have To BeA Poem by L.G. Knight
Thanks for always being
The grandpa you didn't have to be You Sometimes drove my mom crazy But you never failed to love me I remember that time
We worked on your yard And I got a bad sun burn The sun was beating down so hard But I didn't mind
I was happy to help, you know? I complained a lot But that was just for show I loved you so much
Really I still do Even though you left this world tonight I still have so much love for you I know you didn't have to be my grandpa
And always be there You could have been distant But look at these wonderful times we shared Times you would have missed out on
Things you wouldn't have gotten to see All the love that would be lost If you hadn't been the grandpa you didn't have to be I know you're my step grandpa
And some people don't see But since I was tiny You've been grandpa to me I know that God understands
These feelings that I feel And when I step into His heavenly land You'll be waiting with my family so real Because you're as real as real gets
At least you are to me All that matters now Is you're the grandpa you didn't have to be. © 2008 L.G. Knight |
