StandingA Poem by L.G. Knight
I stand and watch the sky,
so dark it looks like night. The wind blows cold and bitter, Swirling around me as I sit here. Lifts my hair off my neck and, whips around the strands so all I can see is flaming gold waves in front of my eyes, muted by dark skies. Rain starts to fall, Stinging little pelts, Like Ice That hits the skin, and just won't melt. The fog rolls in and swirls around, adding to the effect of the sound, Of wind blown leaves and the rains fall, Fog so thick you can't see much at all. Longing for the relief of the sun, But the storm has just begun. Here I stand in my black gown, that the wind tangles around, my legs so that I can't walk, and am forced to stand still and watch. Goose bumps rise on my flesh, As I try my utmost best, Not to watch as a tree hits the ground, But Oh My What A Sound! CRACK! A brief burst of light, A fire ignites, And I can not stop it as the flames rise, Then are put out by the rain like Ice. I stand entranced I cannot move, And as the storm blows I am not soothed, The Storm has torn this Familiar land, So how is it I still stand? As destructive rain and skies clear, Still I can only stand here. © 2008 L.G. KnightReviews
