YELLOW BRICKS

YELLOW BRICKS

A Poem by TerryDarcy-Ryan akaSheerTerror
"

"the Great Pretender"

"

a slow beat a bait and a switch
this makes up our politics
media spins a tornado pitch
just a house, just a witch
the world revolves in disarray
patiently waiting the next disgrace
an undesired display
entwined in a clever betray
cut to the Oz with his final trick
now yellow bricks are only bricks
the wicked path of our insistence
a way of little resistance
holding hands at a five foot distance
hopeful is still the promise
writing threats across the sky
as we struggle in disbelief
poppy's will make us sleep
we are free as the quarantine
there is no place like home
the constant serenade plays in repeat
hope is a place to be seen
the message buried beneath
a willing disguise
a cowardly deceit
a beat elusive,
a shuffle cunning
a step to a weave
patronize our cornerstone
lie to cover a back bone
the great pretender in command
stands upon the working hands
feed the mighty, deny the small
Mr. President
the future strums for us all
