THE BLOODY SOIL

THE BLOODY SOIL

A Poem by TerryDarcy-Ryan akaSheerTerror
"

" Youth will unfold our pale truth’s woven into history from sticks and stones to a bloody game of Monopoly "

"

ancient keeper of the gallows

a haven stretched grand over years

shield a brawling bloodline

limb to limb and hand to hand

these kinsman make a heroic stand

honor scars this line of guards

brother’s in Arms

boys will always follow men

stepping in the footsteps of the bold

repeated in tales by the dead and the old

long past the fork in the road

not silver, not gold

a boys only riches are the promise of home

death’s rattle leads the march

one step closer to war

one step tramples fear

with the bravery found from the heart of a warrior

angels ready their tear

with a desperate overreach

soldier’s come undone ripping at the leaves

nothing is bloodier than a man fighting for life

clawing at the tree’s

a worthy enemy allows no retreat

desperate to be free

arrows roar striking with wind

this sound brings silence to their screams

praying for grace on their knees

for these boys now broken toys

fallen underneath a wooden throne

the bloody soil is free

regardless of the headstone

they will find no peace

stacked with butchered hearts and bodies of braided bone

the lifeless soldier is tossed with the dead

to lay in the perfect tomb

red dirt blankets the seed to a verdant bloom

very strong imagery and feeling comes through. no one really wins in war because the cost is too high and lasts a long time. a great tribute that honors those who give their lives for the cause. a brotherhood forms in battle. your words and pics are really great.

I stood with 20,000 soldiers on the Iraq border. You learn to appreciate life when death is close. Your words true and hard. I feel the most sadness at the graves of the Unknown soldier. Thank you my friend for sharing the powerful and worthwhile poetry.

The cost of spring, a hymn to the living dead. Your writing has so many nooks and crannies to explore it provides endless terrain to play hide and seek in. Thank you for letting me play, I like finding these pieces. Keep them coming.
