The Carousel

The Carousel

A Poem by TerryDarcy-Ryan akaSheerTerror

Beautiful bold white horses

The perfect picture in motion

Eye to eye they fly by

A daring call inside

Echo it's my turn to ride

For the smallest price

The simplest sacrifice

Of my will

Magical Unicorns precede

sculptured and carved for glory

Identical to the fabled story

A seduction holds tight the quarry

To great heights they soare

Suspended and still call for

Plain wishes

To meet illusion

Heroic black and gray stallions

Bow down

Taking their place to serve the noble round

They guard, side by side

Stationed for flight miles high

Pledge endless enchanted light

For the bravest knight

Of illusion and dreams

And they fly by, Circles in flight

Always reaching for the sky

Starless smiles and slight waves

hold them in their places

I heard them calling my name

Sweet sound of temptation

pulling me inside, to always ride

In a collectively composed guise

THE CAROUSEL

As a Poet I cannot just enjoy and take in the beautiful sight of a Carousel. I take it a step further a dramatic flare and their real. Imprisoned, looking for someone to take their place tempting me to join them, so they may be freed. Temptation, addiction a struggle to be liberated all become part of this symbol, the Carousel. Thank you Eliza B I am thrilled that you enjoyed reading The carousel
I love how you took something innocent from many people's childhood and to it to the next level. Another thing I like about this poem is how it feels both dark and beautiful. I rarely see that in poetry. :)

yes, there is something mystical about a carousel. as you elude to, the horses seem to be begging to come alive and be freed so they can be their true, liberated selves. great analogy. you write with a chippy eye for detail. i like what you did with this and what it represents. all around terrific, telling and meaningful. excellent.

Almost reads as a Horror story where the Carousel may represent some Evil or an inevitable ride to somewhere else, perhaps Death. It's a delightfully weird and has an ambiance of woe and guilt.

Very nice! :)
