Attempting to try

Attempting to try

A Poem by Shazbatt969

Craving addiction
Anyone to please
Ease the aches of nagging day
Straight ahead my stare
No glance left
No glance right
A secret smile scratching
Blood
Filled
Hunger
Games
Gone on till bad
Rocking nights to sleep
Possible, aware,
Cycling one pedalled
In phone call rush city
Tricks of the tongue
Inherent confusion
Wondering twitch
Inside
Outside
Angel dust my wings
In a cotton candy brain
"You give me fever,
Fever in the morning sun
Fever every time you kiss me
Fever till the fever's done"
You give me ...
I give you
Proost !

The pull of something outside the self. The ways it shapes the body and mind and gives us the illusion that we are masters of our own fate when we embrace the destruction.

This is a very dynamic poem. It offers the sense of a swath of time being consumed by a single mind state. And in that snowglobe mind, the world outside becomes secondary to the belly of the beast that inhabit the space.

You make the state feel both seductive and destructive. Like those movies where everyone is having a great time getting high like drugs are the nourishment and then someone turns up dead. The snow globe can’t continue to be the space of ideals if it is crowded with the stench of death.

I really appreciate the duality you show. There’s the unapologetic holding out of the draw, but also the acknowledgment of where the draw leads. Being temporarily consumed can be alluring, but at a certain point we have to face the ghost of who we’ve become. Can be a shocking thing to stare down the wild-eyes of it.

I thought this was really excellent writing. The grit of a life lived to a fullness that will eventually be the ruinous fever if it’s not reigned in. Love the recognition followed by the back-turn of the end. Shows these things are never simple.

Ah Dutch courage is a fine thing when the mind is weakened and the soul seeking relief. I see shape poetry here as you drive home the brutality and futility of alcohol adiction in a flowing freeverse filled with code.
