Regrets

Regrets

A Poem by Shazbatt969

The boy watches
the sea,
the colours change,
winds call his name,
he needs escape,
Chaos in an
angry heart,
Life promised it all,
only gives
longer chains
for those who want,
bigger cages
for those that don't,
in the rut
of servitude,
Slave, master, slave,
Who tied the knot
while you slept
and stole the seed
of youth,
following in your
grandfathers footsteps,
bloody fishman,
doomed

i feel the angst of the young man ... dreams out to sea :( wistful ... sad hard rocks of life can be brutal .. a struggle to build a bigger cage .. a struggle to just survive .. too many in the rut .. i think the trick of the whole thing is (what maybe Bruce Lee would say) Be the Rut ;))))))) great poem Shaz! brutal honesty .. very emotive for me ... my empathy for the youth drawn out in the reading .. strong voice you have

:) ...... its not actually his quote .. his is "...be water" ....https://youtu.be/cJMwBwFj5nQ
As I read this poem, I saw so many faces, mostly children in impoverished homes, who have the same dreams as others but not the same means. We cheer for them, though we sadly accept what you convey in the end.

Thanks Ray, it is a sad day when children have to work to feed the family at the loss of education
Wow this has deep pathos and will have many who know fishing culture recognise the sentiment as this flowing and lovely freeverse takes us through the social chains attached to families of fisherfolk despite the risks.
