Your eyes adjust to the warm glow of the interior lit up by candles along the walls. The last gust of cold air dissipates with the closing of the door. The assassin points to a passage along the right wall, you proceed to follow your only ally's bidding and push your way through the fancy wooden door in front of you. The room opens up to a almost pristine library undisturbed by the outer world. Slowly you take a seat at one of the six leather chairs in the room around a large dining table. A sound is heard outside the door you entered the room from, A larger man dressed in military uniform opens the door with a prideful grin on his face. “Hello sir my name is Samuel” You say uneasily, while leaning forward to shake his hand. “ Names major James Paul its quite a pleasure Samuel” He replies while walking ahead to shake your hand. The shake feels almost forced but needed for such a well spoken man. Pulling away he analyzes your forearm with quite a lot of interest, he pulls your sleeve up to analyze your bicep area. Looking yourself you realize your blood vessels still pump the orange liquid from the lab, but the blood seems to almost be inconsistent with its color switching both shade and density. “Have you felt any pain or stiffness in your body since they did their procedure on you.” He inquires almost sorrowfully. “ No sir the only pain I feel is within my head from time to time.” You reply. “Am I the only person you came for in the execution line up?” “No there were several of you I sent my platoon after but I only seemed to have gotten you. Something is better than nothing I suppose.” He replies with quick judgment. “ My best soldier brought you here because I have been given a vision that will change the future of this fallen civilization we are stuck in, allow me to show you” Major says as he walks through a large oak door. The tiled floors are nearly frozen as you push across the room to follow the major through door slowly you look to the large stain glass window across the room a sudden shift of light breaks the steady moonlight shattering against the glass pattern. Disregarding the shadow you pass through the large oak door behind major. Entering the room you already know it's main purpose, it's large metal operating table stands at attention for the work ahead. The floor in here is metal with a hole in the center where blood must drain. “Samuel I am no visionary or a hero of any sorts, I am just an old soldier with experience in the field of medicine. The reason I brought you in here is to give you a chance out there.” The major explains “You have been genetically altered, They have put a liquid genetic altering gel in your blood stream and the people at the execution beside had the same done. You were all tests for the creation of more genetically advanced soldiers, and you're my last hope to bring an end to their plans.” Slowly you pull your navy blue scrub sleeves up and look at the orange blood that stains your body with a glow of health. “ Whatever it takes to stop these monsters from hurting more lessers, these men need to pay for their deeds. What do you have planned for an enhancement?” You ask with confidence. “ This serum works as a muscular endurance and power enhancement on top of the skeletal and blood enhancement they gave you which is why you feel shaky and uncoordinated. This is the next step in the process that they haven’t figured out yet and we have about another month until they perfect it so we need to hurry and stop them.” The major explains with haste in his voice. Pulling out a Large vial of yellow serum he breaks the thin metal seal with a surgical needle and walks up to you. He slowly leads you to lay on the table in the center of the room. “ The last injection was very painful for you because it was rapidly growing your skeletal structure and they couldn’t put you under in fear of you losing conscious control of your body before their “tests” they conduct.” Major says as he puts on his medical scrub. “ Will you put me under?” you ask questioningly. “ No this serum is far less dangerous and painful, it's only side effect is soreness on a muscular level and a couple side effects that rarely occur.” He replies. The needle is placed in your hand by major so you can observe the liquid. Slowly handing it to him you finish observing the strange shimmering yellow liquid. He takes it to a small table with instruments beside the table you are laying on. “ I'm going to simply put an inter venial in and slowly drip it into your system. When it enters your blood stream it might give you a slight headache but that should be all. Okay?” “ Okay whatever puts us ahead of those monsters. What is their research group called again?” you inquire “ Their name is the Dark Rapture Organization because they want the world to be reclaimed from the stalkers using science and soldiers. They were given the job to eradicate the stalker threat from Old Berlin” He explains as he puts the IV tip into your right arm. Suddenly shards of glass smash through the room nailing nearly everywhere but the top of the table. A groan rises as you lift yourself from the table top to the ground. Your eyes adjust to the flickering interior, a figure stands along the wall slowly pulling a blade from another. The figure realizes his situation and quickly approaches you with his blade drawn. You rush him with reckless abandonment, pushing the blade from his hand and slamming head against the table. The figure crumbles to the ground limp and lifeless. Hurrying over to the figure slumped against the wall you notice the blood spray that stains the wall. Picking the figure up you pull him to the light. Its the major and he has had his stomach stabbed through with the rounded bladed of the dark figure. The door bursts open and the assassin that saved you rushes in with blades in hand, He cracks the figure's shoulders to prevent any struggling from the figure. “ What happened in here?” The assassin asks in dismay “This guy just burst through the window before the major did the transfusion and cut him open through the stomach.” You reply with a hurried muffle as you push the Major's stomach to prevent blood loss. The Major muffles and coughs up some blood before falling under. The assassin trades positions with you and pulls a bag of blood from under the table placing it on the table beside the choking major. You grab the vial of serum and stick it into your pant pocket before dealing with the figure under you. Pulling out rubbing alcohol to kill any chance of infection she pours it on the wound, and grabbing bandages the assassin wraps the wound tightly. The figure under you struggles to get up but has no control of his arms with his broken shoulders. You drag the man out of the operating room by his neck and kick him repeatedly until he no longer struggles to get up. Flipping the figure you realize he is wearing a sleek black uniform soaked in blood, the seal on his jacket is a wolf head with the slogan strongest hand uppermost, almost instantly a shiver is sent up your spine the major was explaining the group before he was killed. The figure spits out the blood in his mouth trying to speak. “You escaped and they wont give up until they find you, don’t you understand you are a liability to their plans.” The figure says with a soul less voice colder than the ice sheet covering the window beside you. “They will pay for what they have done you swine! I hope you know that!” You yell before kicking the figure square in the chest. You think “ The only darkness i'm worried about isn’t the demons walking down the streets but the ones that live in our homes with less compassion than the devil himself. All they want to do is see the world burn to the ground.” The assassin walks through the door with her helmet off, her hair flowing past her shoulders. The door slams behind her as she walks up to the figure still laying on his shoulders. Her boot slams directly into his chin sending him flying and hitting the wall. She picks him up with one hand dragging him down the hallway before shattering the stain glass window with his head and flinging him down into the shadowy water below. She turns casually toward you, before walking with a swagger in her step. “Lets go.” she says with a sly confidence and no hesitation. The main hall doors didn’t last long after you ascended the main hall stairs with a swiftness unmatched before. Pushing through the dilapidated sections of the building, you and the assassin rush through the halls as the bullets burst the walls behind you. Your arm starts tingling as your adrenaline increases, the sounds of boots vibrate the floor above you head. Bursting through a set of old double doors, you find yourself in an shell shocked courtyard. The center of the courtyard's brick layout on the ground lays shattered by an artillery shell most likely from the initial invasion. Slowly you push your way through the dark courtyard, the sloshing of snow under your feet is the only sound that radiates as you step into the courtyard's center. She leads you across the snow to some of the standing pillars along the wall. Stopping she points to one of the pillars then takes position behind one herself. The night stands in silent reflection as the snow falls upon the sullen ground of civilization. © 2013 Fallen heroAuthor's Note
