How to find a friend's true worth?

How to find a friend's true worth?

A Poem by Shaurya Gulati

How to find a friend's true worth?
Don't try to find it now,
wait till he gets hurt.
For an injured lion gives out a true roar,
He will remove all the masks he always wore.

He will not show his true self when he is at his best,
Just be patient,my friend, because time is the ultimate test.
When he is not at his prime,
He may shatter the mirrors of impression you had in your mind,
Or he may rise above all the adversaries like Icarus
Leaving the trails of his true self like feathers, glowing under the sunshine.
He will then make you realize that he is worthy of your time,
Because my friend, if he does rise, he will make your life shine.

He may stand by you when you are feeling down.
Or may mock at your situations, and become a Clown.
He may inspire you to chase your dreams, not tomorrow, but now.
Or may sap the inspiration you had, and crush your self esteem,
for the dreams you have, for him, were as worthless as steam.

If he is worthy of your friendship, he will help you solve the question "How?"
If he's not, he will dismiss your goals after saying "wow".
How do we find a friend's true worth?
Just wait for him to get hurt.

Well done. It's obvious you have put a lot of time and thought into this. It is true that friendships are tested by adversity. I'm not too sure about waiting till he hurts to test the friendship - I think that sounds too clinical. Perhaps turning your idea on its head and focussing on how your friends support you when you are in trouble. That's when you know who your friends are!

Shaurya - for a first attempt I believe you did a very good job. You certainly have a good idea of what a friend is.

I don't know where I got this from but I've always thought of this as a very excellent definition of a friend.

A friend is someone who knows all there is to know about you and likes you anyway.

If you are still interested I'd love to be your friend.
