To the King.A Poem by ShaunThis piece is a story of sorts of a new king reading a warning from a predecessor.
These conniptions conveyed are not the rantings of a madman.
They're not intended to be tossed away. For if this warning falls upon the ears of the indifferent Then the indifferent may share this same fate. Stray not towards the sirens for their lips are poison Their bosoms are a snare to contain, To entrap the souls of the wandering misguided Their songs spew forth like a plague. Hold your ground when confronted with confrontation Leave no flesh open to be perceived For a simple glance may grant your opponent The opportunity to pull up his sleeve. Know your foe as you know your self But never cast a blind eye to the man beside you Because the best assassin will come with a smile And a passport to the gates of hell. Yearn not for the collection of the riches of man With time even gold will lose its luster Be known upon your deathbed as a man of wisdom Not a arrogant, foolhardy prospector. Treat those who follow you as you treat a brother Be a king of fairness and mercy Because the jeweled throne upon which you sit Can sit another rather quickly Heed these words, my distant successor Let not this advise go disregarded Or you may share the destiny of many before you And write your own verse on this parchment. © 2014 ShaunAuthor's Note
