Cancer

Cancer

A Poem by Sharon Jodock-King
"

37 years of survival

"
Who me?
No!
Test wrong
Very wrong
Doctor speaks
Another person
Me really
Operation mentioned
Tears come
Family supports
Lumpless feeling
Caught early

Second doctor
Same explanation
Trapped feeling
Face truth
Scheduled operation
Spare prolonging
Cancer small
More test

Operation complete
Test waiting
Wrong outcome

Why?

1987

Author's Note

Sharon Jodock-King
Sharon was diagnosed with cancer shortly after I started working with her in '86. We survived and bonded. Her survival led to so much good in so many lives.

You know dear Sharon when they say age is just a number? I want to say here that 37 is A NUMBER! no matter how the journey was or is heading to, what's more significant in life than to be a true inspiration? what's more beautiful, meaningful or divine that this? You light a road for so many others, filling them with faith and strength walking in their own shoes. You are blessed my dear, blessed and loved and please remember this always. Warm Loving Hugs, Angels' Love, support, peace and company to be there with You always ❤️

All to often families are found at these crossroads. If we have support or can give support is the best we can hope for and then arm in arm attack it full on.
Your dream courage will inspire many readers. Thank you for sharing such a personal journey

Waiting... Not knowing...
Questions like black butterflies.
Questions God ignores.
Job haunts my quaking heart now.
His hand soothes my lost spirit.

Written when my wife gave us a scare. Thankfully, it was only a bad infection making her sick. But it took days to learn anything. That week, Job came up in church and I composed the tanks above. To this day, I wonder what I would do, the big, scary what if...
Well written. Much emotion in a few words. Fear, anxiety, the last straw of hope. It's all here. Well done.

others look to survivors for hope.
It really does take a village, doesn't it?
