When he started to hate me

When he started to hate me

A Poem by Sharon Kinsella
"

It will explain itself.

"
I was about 5 years old when he pushed me off his lap.
Bewildered, I asked why?
He told me "You're too old to sit on daddy's lap anymore."
He looked at me with so much hate in his face.
Looking back I see that maybe it was because I couldn't get comfortable.
There was something jabbing at me and I kept moving around
And he stopped reading the paper
The words just lay on the page
As I landed on the floor.
Where do those words go when no  one reads them?
Where do little girls go when daddy hate's them?

He never took it back.
The twisted look on his face showed up more often.
And I knew that he hated me.
And I hated him.
