Changes

A Poem by Shannamae
"

Friends

"

All she seems to do is cry anymore
And it’s like he enjoys making her
And she barely talks to us anymore
Although we used to be best friends
And she can’t take anymore bruises from her dad
And he won’t stop lying
He won’t put down the bong
And he keeps on trying
And he tried cocaine
Because of the pressure from that one guy
And then denied it happened
And he likes the burn of smoke now
Something he used to hate
And she tries to force herself into it
Just so she can relate
And then she tries to calm herself
By bending the rules
of breaking skin
Because she hates what she’ll do to herself
Just for him
And he’s not at home anymore
And this one’s just the same
And someone’s burning for an old boy
But the new one doesn’t know
And the new one’s burning for an old girl
And they don’t know how much more
They can burn for each other anymore
And this one’s feeling that familiar jump
When a certain one walks into a room
And she tries to push this jump away
Although she knows it’s not only her
And she knows that what’s hers
Probably isn’t anymore
That her jump isn’t the only one wandering
But his jump has probably just wandered more then hers
And everyone is craving a different reality
Some of craving the burn of smoke
But one is craving the burn of vodka
At the back of her throat
And the truth this releases
But she’ll never let anyone know
Because she’s scared of who she’ll reflect
But everyone’s scared
And everyone’s confused
And everyone’s lying
And everyone’s hiding
And everyone has their secrets
And everyone’s changed
But nobody will tell anyone
Why.
