Chapter 6
Suddenly Matius eyes widen violently, turning
white. All of a sudden the windows simultaneously explode in a single moment under
the pressure. The wind screams, filling the chamber. The pavement around Matius
starts to chip as pieces start to break away, rising into the air. Dervish
other blinded by the blinding light raises his arm in protection, barely able
to see. He trys to look at the light that is Matius realising why Matius was
afraid. “You must control your power or you’ll tear this place apart!!”, he
screams
The light that is Matius continues
screaming in his uncontrollable fury. The wallpaper starts to peel away, tossed
into the centre of the area, disintegrating into nothing. Large pieces of tiling
rise into the air, taking pieces of loose earth with it before dispersing into
the air. In desperation Dervish hastily walks over a still unmoved tile,
raising it uneasily. With force he hurtles it towards Matius. As it approaches
Matius it slows, as it starts to crack. Pieces of it seem to break away from
the power, as it slowly moves towards Matius. Then it instantly breaks by the
power.
With little choice Dervish intently walks towards
Matius, the wind attempting to push him back. Each footstep becoming harder
than the next. Some of the soil rises up around his feet, dispersing outwards.
He takes another step, his foot slipping back. He clenches his teeth in anger
forcing himself forward towards the white light. As he gets closer he reaches
his hand forwards only to have the wind pushing it back. Strong enough to peel
the very skin off his bones.
He suddenly blackens his hand, turning
it into ash in protection. With urgency Dervish reaches towards Matius once
more, ash continues to breaking away. With one last lunge Dervish’s ash hand
grips onto Matius’s shoulder. In that instant the power is broken, as the wind
roars. Dervish is hurtled through the air as everything falls to the ground.
Matius his power now silenced collapses to the ground breathing heavily. His
hands stop his from hitting the floor, still panting. He raises his head weakly
towards where Dervish other is who slowly starts to get up uneasily.
Dervish looks towards Matius giving a chuckle,
walking towards him. “Well that was unexpected, I’ve never felt a power like
that before. If you had continued your own power would have destroyed this
place”. Matius glances up, looking towards an approaching Dervish. “You are far
stronger than I am, .. Dervish other replies outstretching his ash hand down,
offering Matius to pick him up. Matius looks up in confusion, “Are you nuts?”,
Matius utters, “you’re hurt me with your power”. Dervish insistently keeps his
hand out stretched. “Just trust me”, Dervish other responds calmly. Unsurely
Matius stares at the ash like hand, with ash particles in the air before
gripping it. As he holds it he doesn’t feel a burning sensation, all he feels
is cold like ash on his hand.
Matius looks at the hand, before
looking at Dervish. “How are you doing that?”, Matius remarks, looking back at
his hand. “you mean my hand? Touching yours? It’s control”, Dervish other
replies, “Just because I’m like him doesn’t mean I am him. I’m able to control
my abilities as I see fit, your enemy does not… Have you ever noticed that’s he’s
corrupted?”. Matius pauses thinking it over, “now that I think about it...
yes”. “It’s his ambition and power”, Dervish other utters controlling the ash
cloud in the air gliding in the air, “controlling your powers and dreams, do
not let them control you. Same can be said for your emotions, getting angry or
upset triggers the reaction, the power. Do you understand?”. Matius nods in
agreement, rising to his feet. “Yes”. “Good”, Dervish announces, “now that I
have seen your power I will help you now control it”.
“Now to continue the training there are aspects in
which we need to cover in order for you to have complete control. Reaction,
power and lastly control” Dervish walks in front of Matius, “Now I don’t think
we need to worry about power. All we need to focus on now is control”. Matius
turns to Dervish confused, “but why not reaction?”. “Why? Because if you open
your power flow again and I don’t stop you, you could destroy me. I was just lucky that
time”. Matius lowers his head. “Now Matius I you want embrace your emotions.
Think about the people you’re fighting for Think of what you’re trying to
save!” Matius closes his eyes, deep in thought. Several seconds later little
bits of debris start shaking on the floor, Dervish other gives a smile. “Now
Matius I want you to remember this feeling, this sensation Alright?” Matius
then calms himself as the debris ceases to shake.
Pleased Dervish other gives a nod of approval
sitting down. “Now this time Matius instead of using your emotions, I want you
to trigger your power from your will. Remember the sensation, feel it out”,
Dervish other comments watching Matius closely. Matius closes his eyes again in
concentration, his own fists clench intensely. Several seconds pass as Matius’s
face shudders in meditation, his eyes lids moving. Then Dervish other notices
bits of debris shaking on the floor, looking back to Matius. Matius’s body
starts to give off a white light as the tiling in front of him starts to break
away steadily; pieces of it levitate into the air. Dervish other leans back in
surprise watching as the pieces of tiling float in the air, smiling. He’s doing
better than I thought he would.
“Alright Matius now I want you to
intensify the sensation that you are feeling, make it fill your whole body.
Matius’s face starts to frown as his body itself becomes immersed in white
light. A wind starts to build around Matius as more tiling starts to break away
in a controlled manner. “Excellent Matius! Well done, you can relieve the power
now”. The light around starts to become faint, as does the wind. The floating
tiles then drop to the floor, damaging the intact floor. Matius breathes a sigh
of relief, stretching his arms standing up. “Damn, that felt intense”, Matius remarks
looking to Dervish other. “Yes you did better than I expected. Now we need to
test your reactions”.
“Now, the best way to test your reactions is with speed. For this we’re going
to be using broken pieces of tiling before our feet”. Matius watches as Dervish
other starts picking up several pieces of tiling smiling to himself. “Really?
You’re going to throw them at me with your hands?”, he remarks humorously.
Dervish other twists his head some distance from Matius. “Not exactly”. From
his hands Dervish starts to create ash clouds, which pick up each piece of
broken tiling. “Think of your power as an extension of yourself”, Dervish other
hints, “Use it to attack, defend, retreat. Feel out the object of threat”.
Quickly one of the ash trails throws
the piece of broken tile straight at Matius just as it nears Matius his eyes
glow white as the tile piece explodes, in a flash of light. Dervish other looks
in amazement before focusing once more, “good. But there’s from where that came
from”. In response several ash trails
throw more pieces of tiling aimed at different places. Each piece exploding
nearing contact with Matius, filling the room with flashes of light. “Not bad,
but how can you do close up?”, Dervish exclaims. Without realising a piece of
broken tile has got into Maius’s blindside. Matius quickly closes his eyes,
feeling the air movement of the approaching object. “Before it impacts on
Matius the tile piece seems to slow before exploding in a flash of light.
Dervish other allows himself a smile
looking at Matius, “Wow I didn’t think you would pass this stage already. Even
I struggled on that part”. Matius looks in surprise, “really even you?”.
Dervish other closes his eyes, “well yes. Using my power on myself is easy, but
controlling the speed of the ash? That’s hard”.
“Now that your training is complete, there is one
last task for you to be ready” Dervish announces walking around the room,
calmly. Matius watching in question. “And what’s that?”, Matius questions
watching him. “Me”, Dervish answers singularly turning towards him, “you must
fight and defeat me in combat. Using the very skills in the training that I’ve
taught you”. Dervish walks around Matius testing him, “Now before we fight we
must bow in greeting”. Matius looks in buoyancy, smiling to himself. “You know
it’s funny, I’ve always wanted to have a spar with you”, Matius remarks in
respect. “That’s good to hear. Just because I’m not him doesn’t mean I won’t
act like him. I hope you’re ready, for I will not hold back”, Dervish other warns
facing Matius. He lowers his head looking up to Matius in expectance as he too
gives a respective bow. Just as Matius bows Dervish quickly lunges forward with
his sword for Matius to institinly block. Dervish looks at Matius’s sword in
examination before looking up smiling in admiration. “Good, your reflexes are
quicker”. Matius withdraws aggressively swinging his sword using his body
weight. Dervish raises his sword blocking the attack uneasily, “and you are
focused, determined. Making your attacks, purposeful”
Just as he’s saying this Matius’s eyes
suddenly glow brightly, his sword starts to shine. Dervish’s other’s sword
starts to shake under this new pressure, forcing him back breaking the very
floor. Suddenly Matius with overwhelming power sends Dervish flying into the
glass wall, suprsing himself. Matius still illuminated lowers his head looking
towards Dervish other who himself raises his head. “And your power, you’ve
taped into its depths. Good…now lets see if you can fight!” he compliments
lifting himself eagerly.
Dervish other draws out his other sword as the
blade edges start to become encased in ash, running along the blade. Quickly he
lunges at Matius swinging both swords just as Matius blocks it with his
shinning sword. The floor around them explodes in a flash of light and ash
cloud, both struggling under the pressure. Realising a stalemate Matius glances
at Dervish other, his eyes shine intensely knocking Dervish other back by an unknown
force. Dervish other manages to keep his footing, looking for an opening. Using
his ash Dervish other swings the blade behind Matius’s blind spot. Using his
power Matius quickly moves from the spot like a flash and knocking Dervish
other into the ground, Matius watching patiently. In annoyance Dervish other
gets back up looking in defiance, “time I stopped holding back!”.
Dervish other’s skin starts to blacken
as he gives of a huge ash cloud surrounding him. Quickly Dervish other swings one
of his swords towards Matius, covered in ash. Recognising the danger Matius
concentrates on the blades as one vibrates exploding in a flash of light.
Distracted Dervish other lunges in with his sword as Matius parries the attack,
both locked in struggle. “Now! Matius! I need you to give it all you’ve got!
Don’t hold back, don’t give in!”, Dervish other blasts raising his power as
Matius’s shinning blade starts to shake. In response Matius intensifies his
power as the windows start to break, pieces of soil rising into the air. “Be
who you were always meant to be! A son of Sousan!”, Dervish other blasts out as
the room is filled with clouds of ash on one side and blinding light on the
other.
Suddenly both get knocked back as both slam into
the broken glass walls, falling to the floor. Dervish other is the first to
pick himself up, clutching his back in pain. “Well… I’m glad to say you
passed”, Dervish other smiles weakly. Matius himself gets himself looking at
Dervish other with a smile. “We’d better head for heaven”, Dervish other notes
looking to the ground, “they’ll be waiting for us”. Matius gives a nod as both
teleport from the now ruined training room.
