Chapter 2
The next day a gathering has gathered
outside the police station, many people talking in excitement others trying to
know what’s happened. The Police head then walks outside of the building along with
several police.
“Thank you, thank you”, everyone in the
crowd falls silent. “I have gathered you all here today because there is a
matter which needs your attention”. Many of the crowd murmur to themselves, “Over
the past couple of days there have been unidentified killings take place in
currently from ten pm till midnight, each killing has had eye witnesses of the
one known only as Matius. Matius despite being involved in these crimes he has
not come forward and plead his innocence. This alone but us into suspisccion.
Just yesterday later into the evening there was another two murders, this time
we saw Matius evacuating the alley giving solid confirmation on the suspect of
these murders”. Many of the cameras flash irritating the police officer. “This
man did save us on a most tragic day and has come to our aid yet again several
years ago. In mutual respect we are grateful and thanks for his help. Now
though for unknown reason, he has turned to killing putting fear into us once
more”. “He might have saved us however these attacks, these recent killings, we
can no longer ignore his actions”.
“Stoop!!” Everyone suddenly turns around seeing Eva with
several people in the crowd. “Matius, isn’t the one guilty. He wouldn’t do such
things!” The Policeman turns around, “who let these people through?” The police
officer demands, turning towards his work men. “He wouldn’t do such things to
these people!” (Eva argues)
“After a hard choice between us, the
government and the police force It has been decided that He is a threat. A
threat to the people and society”. “starting from today he will not be safe, he
will not longer hide and he will no longer be free. If you see him, inform the
police. If you hear him, inform the police. At nights there will be patrols on
the streets for your safety” He is not the one behind these attacks!” Please
come with us...” (eva gets escorted)
Later as night starts to set Matius
flies towards the church after an eventful day (police attack Matius at the
church)
The next day Matius watches Craig’s house from high in a tree,
completely hidden by unwanted attention. He suspiciously watches Craig in his bedroom, looking through
the window, feeling the cold wind breeze.
His attention turns towards the sound of the front door; Craig
appears by it with his mother by his side, ready to go to school. He kisses his
mother goodbye before heading down the path towards the gate in an excited
mood. One of his friends is waiting for him, both walk down the pavement together
exchanging laughs. His job done Matius flies from the tree, carefully timing
himself.
He heads over near the outskirts of the city in looking for a new
hideout, somewhere to call home. Then he notices something an abandoned house,
with pieces of wood covering the broken windows and fractured doors. It looks
in a very poor state, no one should be living in there Matius thinks to
himself. Interested he loses altitude in search of a entrance inside. Then he
notices the roofing with several missing cracks where rain and weather eroding
have taken place.
Matius lowers himself into the house,
going through the gap in the roofing, landing in the attic. He looks around his
surroundings with peeling eroding wallpaper and worn floorboards, looking down
he notices there are holes in the floorboards revealing another floor below. The
floor boards creak as he walks with every step noticing a chair torn and old.
walking towards it he lowers himself down into the chair, waiting for the sun
to go down. His eye’s lazily watching the sun, irritated by the light in his
eyes. He dazes off, his head moving to the side. Hours pass by, when his eyes
reopen its night.
With the night sky in place he flies above the city, watching
the alley and streets, admiring the city life, the lights brighten up the
streets, with car lights, shop signs and the lamp posts scattered along the
roads. Keeping an eye out for anything unusual or for the person framing him
for these murders. He continues to fly until the weather starts to get rough, the
wind starts to push him back the rain itself doesn’t help either. Interrupting
his flight he shakes his head as the rain bouncing off his head.
Frustrated with the change in weather, he spots a road with no sight
of activity directly below. He floats down onto the road, noticing there are no
cars or people in sight. Water drips from his head, dripping of his chin. The
cold makes him shudder. A fat water drop trickles above his eye. In annoyance
he closes his eyes for a second, reopening them only to find a mysterious
stranger standing in the middle of the road, his facial features hidden in
shadows. Matius focuses on this mysterious figure, transfixed.
The rain continues to pour down, adding to the tension. The
figure remains deathly silent, making Matius nervous. “Look what do you want?”
Matuis asks slightly annoyed, still no answer. He takes several steps towards
the stranger, his footsteps hitting the water. “Just who are you?!” His voice
rises in annoyance, his eyes firmly fixed on the motionless stranger. “Are you
the one behind these murders?!” In anger Matius attempts to strike the
stranger, only for him to dodge out of harm’s way, splashing the water. Matius
then tries to knock him of balance, only for the stranger to jump out of the
way. The figure then stands up looking directly at Matius, the rain continues
to pour down. In anger he leaps straight for him, taking out Matius’s feet, his
body slamming against the wet tarmac road. Matius rolls over, his cloak now
soaked. He gets up, ready for another attack.
They both continue fighting, blow after blow, only for each
attack to be blocked. The rain continues to come down, hitting the road like
bullets. None can gain an advantage. Seeing this the stranger pushes Matius,
watching him slide along the road. With one last stare the stranger unveils
wings from behind him, looking into the dark black sky. He slowly looks back
down at Matius, now standing, steadying himself up. “This is not over”, the
stanger mutters. Matius can only watch the stranger take into the air, into the
black night. Matius feels the beat of his wings on his face. Once more Matius
remains alone in the road with the rain pouring all around him. “That’s not
possible...he looked just like me...” Confused, wet and again full of questions
Matius looks into the sky, into the darkness before heading down the road, the
confrontation over.
He returns back to his hideout, throwing his cape on the floor,
stressed. He lands into the chair, resting his arms. He takes out the shard of
glass from his pocket and plays around with it in his hands, watching it. The
rain continues to pour down, the water trickling down the wood which boarding
up the house. He turns the shard of glass around in his hands, transfixed by
it. Visions of Dervish instantly enter his mind, sharp memories catch him by
suprise, each vision cripples Matius, tossing and turning his head. In anger
Matius throws the shard of glass across the floor, hands on his head. Ready for
tommorow to come.
The next day walks through the graveyard, keeping his
whole body under cover, avoiding the eyes of people passing by. His eyes scan
the areas of the graveyard trying to find someone. Then directly under a tree,
he notices a figure well hidden under the trees shadow. Matius takes several
steps towards the figure, his feet treading the grass. The stranger hearing
this lifts his head up seeing Matius approach; dark blue eyes look back, giving
a little smile.
“It’s been a long time... friend”,
Lemionas removes the hood covering his head, dark blue strands of hair fall
down by his shoulders. They both approach each other shaking hands then break
the hold and start walking, treading the damp grass. “So what can I do for
you?” Lemionas asks turning towards, Matius smiling. “I’m being framed for
murders I did not commit”, Matius utters, “I don’t know who it is but people
think it’s me”. “So I’ve seen”, Lemionas replies, “The description on the
television fits your description” Matius remains silent, ignoring Lemionas
words. Then he remembers the shard from Craig’s house, pulling it out with
care. “There is also this”, Matius utters. Lemionas’s expression suddenly turns
concerned, looking at the shard, sensing something within the glass shard.
“When I went into Craig’s house, I found this”, Matius explains, with a hint of
anxiety. Lemionas expresses his interest; Matius passes the shard over to him.
Lemionas turns it over in his hands,
somewhat bewildered. “When did you find this?” he questions looking over to
Matius. “The day Dervish was defeated” Matius replies looking at the shard.
Lemionas continues inspecting it seeing little visions within the fragment;
suddenly he feels a sharp tinge of Dervish’s energy. In reaction he drops the
shard. Shard pain in his hands. Lemionas glances at the shard, full of
suspicion turning towards Matius in anguish. “How is this possible?” He
whispers in a fearful voice. Matius remains deep in thought trying to find a
suitable answer.
Deep in the back of his mind he remembers something his father
once told him. “Before the night my father went missing, he told me of a place
which mirrors our own, like a reflection of ourselves.” He then remembers last
night, which supports his father’s claims, “Last night, I encountered the
murderer behind the killings, except...he looked just like me”. This lights
Lemionas’s interest, his expression changes, “Go on...” Matius continues
talking, gaining confidence, “I fought with him that night... His fighting
skills were just like my own. It was like fighting myself.” Lemionas nods with
interest. “It’s not just that... he has wings and he sounded like me” Matius
replies, “He’s killing people under my name. He has to be stopped!!” Lemionas
pauses thinking, “Yes we will do, but if you what you say is true....then we
could all be in danger. Look at it this way, at the moment there is peace between
your world and mine. We defeated Dervish in our reality, but what about the
mirror or otherworld? Are they are war, will they try to attack our world, our
homes?”
“We need to investigate, we can’t
ignore this otherwise things could get worse”. Matius lowers his head in anger. It’s one
nightmare after the next he thinks to himself, knowing full well they will need
support. “Do you think any angels will help us with this?” Matius asks in
question. “No...”, Lemionas answers, “I doubt they will be experienced enough
to deal with type of problem”. “Then who
do you think we should call on to support us?” Matius asks worried. Lemionas
has a quick think before looking back at Matius, bearing a smile. “Who do you
think?”
