SPRING AWAKENINGSA Poem by DORYWRITTEN IN THE COMBINED FORM OF ABECEDARIAN USING END RHYMED COUPLETS
Spring Awakenings As the earth dances in a stately minuet about its celestial lover Bringing forth in its progression a season of rebirth and colour Conferring on the land and air an anticipation of sweet romance Dawn lights the clear blue sky as the earth pirouettes in its dance Everywhere the dance of the sun overthrows the mantle of white Fingers of ice loose their hoary grip freeing imprisoned fairy and sprite Gone is the stillness of river and stream, bonds broken are now so fleet Having been released to join the world in its magical dance so sweet In valleys a carpet of snowdrops dance under newly dressed trees Joyfully rainbows of wild flowers lift their heads in slow graceful degrees Kissed gently with the love of the sun those that slumbered through Long days of ice and snow now arise to join the dance and life renew Meandering brooks reflect the colours of gossamer wings dancing above Nascent larvae spin and twirl through shimmering crystal to a song of love Over mountains high the soaring eagle watches life’s dancer’s move to the dream Purple, red and pink a rainbow of perfumed colour is everywhere to be seen Quietly bees move in perfect harmony with the dance as it has always been Rivers once barren now teaming with life striving against the flow So return to their beginnings, the dance draws them on with its glow The dance brings all together and the joy of new life is the songs refrain Upon the highest peak the cloak of white continues its frigid reign Victory for the Suns fiery dance unattained still one icy realm does remain Winter’s promise is here written that its dance shall usurp the land again Xerxes in all his splendour does not compare to this timeless battle so arcane Yet still the dance goes on for its brief time as the riot of life covers our earth Zealous are the gods of our world’s beauty when they sing the song of rebirth.
