Ash Colored Trees

Ash Colored Trees

A Poem by Shane Hogan Poetry

Have you taken the time to see the sun rising?
While the sky is bathed in blue.
Have you spent time inhaling the air?
That brings life within your lungs.
Admiringly the birds will sit
singing a song about the past;
Remembered for a second,
just for you.

I hope never to be sober,
if this be my drug.
It is to beautiful to be ingested,
protected and hidden for safety.
If not here,
 where else  would i stand
A Tree full of leaves,
a bench that sits three,
a morning of frost,
and a footprint of me.

A chimney that smokes
at about quarter past eight,
awaits its inhabitants day.
There is a while from this till then,
quietness now as birds fly away.
The sun starts to rise
behind the great hills.
My eyes savor the
last of Dawns gray.
Have you taken the time
to see the sun rising?
A Question worth answering,
Before the next recurrence,
At the end of your day.

Yes, I have...and a very important thing to do. Lovely words here in your poem. It tells an important story. One which is so often ignored. Yet, if it were not, the pace of life would be slower, and life itself longer.
Lovely poem, Shane and very enjoyable

I'm in love with this...beautifully written. I want to take the time now that I read this! And there are so many things the sun may stand for!

I couldn't of put it more beautifully! This poem truly hits the nail on the head, in the sense that in our generation today, we find ourselves striving for the unknown, for the "objet-petit-a" and we forget the tiny beautiful things like nature, and the real world. There is no better way to convey this as you have done with "Have you taken the time to see the sun rising? [...] At the end of your day". For some reason, this poem puts me back to Central Park in New York where i took a day off to just walk around and embrace the natural sights of the city. This is a truly inspiring read, in that it reminds me how much we forget about Nature. Great work!

Serenity is the finest sense of being!
I have! I used to work nights so would often enjoy the moment the sun rose and the day awoke from its slumber.
Really nicely told and quite inspiring.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you!
The day's beginning and the day's end have always held my attention. There's a bit of the philosopher in you methinks. I enjoyed your meditation here. Reading this was like watching the birds at my feeder this morning...soothing and enjoyable.

To me, this poem is reminding us to appreciate nature since so many people take it for granted. Like other reviewers, I remember how peaceful and utterly relaxing nature can be. Really wonderful writing :)
