Is it my life?

Trying the poetry thing again..take a look

Please, I need an answer,

I don't need another disaster

Is it my choice or his?

Am I basing my life off of my own interests,

or what he has influenced on me?

Does my path follow my own beliefs,

or do they reflect his?

Is my future depending on my choices,

or has he set it in stone?

Am I the person I want to be,

or am I him?

Is it my life, or is it his?

Shane, it's deep, truly. The final outcome is always your decision. You have to decide what the words are meant to say. Many times, poems write themselves out through our emotions in difficult situations. They're like raw, open wounds exposed for the rest of the world as a caution or so that those observing can have a chance to feel compassion for the author. Whatever the effect, you have to decide it's intent.

I see this poem as very raw and a little subtle, at the same time. Is this a lament for a love or are you speaking to another you? "Is it my choice or is it his?" Could be nothing more than the seperate madness you feel standing next to you because it hurts so much.

I might suggest finding a slightly different word to end one of the first two lines. They're so close that they almost rhyme and it makes starting the poem just a little awkward.
