When They Came

When They Came

A Poem by Shami

When they came we thought they were Gods .

we basked and awed in their glory .

Blinded by a facade, not knowing it was a farce .

When they came it was genocide .I

t was a season of dispair and a festival of sadness .

They killed our men  and took our women .

Their hungry thrist for wealth ,for riches blinded them

and became reason for their cruelty.

As I look back at the home I'm now fleeing ,I realize Gods did not come ,but men

They Came .

This is a very powerful write, a voice of the indigenous, man destroys everything he touches in the name of progress, his evolution.
