Try To Forget

Try To Forget

A Chapter by BodilessSoul
"

Amy just wants to forget everything that's going on in her life. Too bad no one is letting her.

"

"So what were you doing in detention?" David asked as he and I crossed the street.  Starbucks was in view.

"Um, late to class.  You?"  I said, shifting the conversation away from me.  He shrugged.

"Same thing.  You don't seem like the type to be late, though.  What held you up?"  He pressed on.  What did he mean by the type?  Why wasn't I the "type"?  Did I look  like a nerd?

"Uh, well, um.  Boyfriend broke up with me," I said with a shrug.  Shrug it off, Amy, shrug it off.

"In the hallway?  Are you serious?"  He asked, dubious.

"Hey, at least it wasn't in a text message... then again I don't have a cell," I mumbled.  David laughed beside me.  Would he have broken up with me over text message if he could have?  Ugh, I hoped not.

"Sorry, didn't mean to laugh.  It's just for one, who doesn't have a cell phone and also... I got dumped by text," David admitted with a chuckle.  He got dumped?  Over text?  Ouch.

"Text talk and all?"  I asked.

"Yup.  'Idk if we should b 2gether'," He quoted with a laugh.  I bit my lip.  We had arrived at Starbucks and he opened the door for me.

"Didn't it hurt?"

"Heck yeah, it hurt.  But then I realized that there are many other fish in the sea," He said with a shrug.  I let that roll through my brain for a bit.  I couldn't see myself with anyone but Kevin.  Maybe I was just a sucker, like my mom.  Ugh, Java Chip, I need you.

I spotted Stacey and Sam right away at our usual table, they already had their drinks and my Java Chip.  If it wasn't such a rediculous reason to get teary-eyed, I would have gotten teary-eyed.  I said my "see you later"s to David as he went to his post behind the counter and walked over to my buddies, who were eyeing me as if I was their prey.

"Um, could you stop staring at me... please?"  I asked as I sat down, automatically scooping up my drink.  Amy, it crooned, I missed you, Amy.

I missed you too, fat,  I missed you too.

"So, what's Sugar Daddy doing walking with you?" Stacey questioned.  I sighed.

"His name's David, not Sugar Daddy and he had detention as well,"  I mumbled, pretending to be consumed by my whipped cream.

"Oo, he goes to our school?  Interesting," Stacey said, twirling her invisible mustache.

"I'm not on the market so don't you dare go trying to hook me up with anyone,"  I warned, glaring at her.  Sam sighed heavily.

"Honey, seriously, you need to forget that balloon-head.  You are not going to become a nun just because some jerk decided he liked blonde bimbos and not gorgeous brunettes like yourself," Sam said.  I rolled my eyes.

"Being abstinant and being a nun are two different things.  Plus, who are you?  My therapist?"  I grumbled.  Sam bonked me on the head with her cup.

"I, as your friend, have the right to become your therapist when needed.  As well as matchmaker but Stacey already has you covered with that," Sam said and stuck out her tongue.  Ugh.

"Fine, Dr. Sam, I will forget the balloon-head as you call him and vow not to become a nun, kay?"  I said.  Stacey huffed.

"Do you vow to take that hottie on a date?"  Stacey asked.

"What hottie?"

"David, you pinapple," Stacey said, exasperated.

"Pinapple?" I repeated, confused.

"Meaning you're a brunette on the outside but a blonde inside," Sam explained.  I gapped.

"Okay, I am not a pinapple and I am not taking that hottie on a date!"  I almost screamed.  It turned into a strangled cry by the end of it, though, as I realized we were in a public place.  David looked up from where he was working and glanced at our table with amusement.

"Fine, fine," Stacey said and waved her hands in the air, "then I'll just take him out on a date because he is too good looking to pass up on."

"No," I growled.  She raised her studded eyebrow.

"No?  Why not?"  Stacey asked, apparently enjoying this.

"Well," I started, struggling to figure out a real reason for her not to, "well, because I'm his friend and it would be awkward when you drop him like a hot potato."  Stacey rolled her eyes, not believing a word I said.

"I, unlike Sam, keep my men," Stacey retorted.  I rolled my eyes.

"You just want him to yourself," Sam stated, sipping her Chi.  I shook my head.

"Could you all not?  Thank you," I said and stood up.  "Anyway, I gotta go.  My mom wants me home by four thirty," I mumbled.

"What for?"  Stacey asked, staring at her empty cup with a frown.

"Dad's leaving today and she wants me to say my goodbyes," I grumbled.  Sam sucked in air through her teeth.

"Do you even want to?" She asked.  I rolled my eyes.

"Do I look like I want to?"  I asked, my shoulders sagging.  "Either way, I gotta go.  Plus, I have to study for that quiz Mr. Grey is giving tomorrow."

"Why even study?  His quizzes are the devil's work," Stacey grumbled.  She had that right.

"I have no choice, it's either try and possibly not fail or not try and definitely fail," I said.  Stacey shrugged.  I waved to them and headed off, glancing back once to see David's eyes on me.  He quickly looked away.  Huh.

"So..." Stacey said, trying to pry info out of me.

"So, my dad brought his new girlfriend to the house.  Look, can we not talk about this?  I'm trying to forget the whole thing," I said.  I felt tired and I knew I looked a trainwreck.  This morning when I looked in the mirror, I screamed.  I looked like a zombie and no amount of make-up was going to hide the bags under my eyes from a lack of sleep.

"Was she blonde?"  Sam asked.  I twitched.

"Yes, she was.  Now can we drop it?"  I growled as I lugged myself towards my locker.  Sam bit her lips and mouthed a "sorry".

"Prince Charming at 1 o'clock,"  Stacey whispered in excitement.  I sighed.  Was she ever going to leave me alone about him?

"Hey, Amy," David said as he leaned against the locker opposite me.  Of course, when I looked over my shoulder, Sam and Stacey had scattered like sneaky lil' rats.

"Hiya, David.  What's up?"  I asked, smiling.  He bit his lip.  Uh-oh.

"Um, don't hate me,"  he cautioned.  I raised my eyebrow.

"Why would I?"

"That rumor?  It got out," David said slowly.

"Wait, what?"
