She Was

She Was

A Poem by BodilessSoul

Something about her truly caught my eye

With broken wings, she could not fly

Working day and night, always giving a fair fight

Survival was all she seeked, fishing for jobs to make end's meat

Her eyes and face subtle, discreet

Yet telling stories from decades before, of women and how they deserve more

Than the hardships they bore,

deminishing their personalities

Burning up their fragilities

Calouses and muscles, her hands never the same

After being taken in and forced to be tame

Yet she was a warrior through and through

And keeping herself true

No matter the battles she faced

She fought to never be erased

Cruelities and life would not bring her down

She barely rewarded the harsh world with a frown

Just a determined glance and stare

As she sat upon her withered chair

Knitting and sewing the threads of life together

Making something that could weather

The storms that would come near

She who shows no fear

She who knows nothing yet all, who dares not fall

From the life she calls her own, no matter how small

She was my mother, fighting with soul

Till the day life took its toll.
