A DreamA Poem by Shalane GossBe Optimistic.Pastel purple clouds Are painted upon a darkening sky. Fading light from a withering candle Flickers and dies in someone's eyes. The glow of a setting sun Deadens a dream in someone's heart. This darkness is too close for comfort, And it's tearing this someone apart. Small sprinkling raindrops Patter lightly upon a tree. Whose branches refuse to stretch; They hang limp with dying leaves Gray darkness shrouds the sky And a merciless storm settles in The gloomy outlook above all else Becomes this someone's closest friend. A chilling wind disturbs a dream, That seeps through a crack in the door. Someone shivers atop cold bed sheets; Blankets, strewn about the floor Out the window trees are tossed and battered And whipped by a heartless breeze Someone's hope is anchored to nothingness Slipping to the base of an abysmal sea. This someone fears destruction; This dream can't remain craved. A light is sparked in the eyes of that someone Setting an enchanting fire ablaze. Optimism stops the storm That rains out of this someone's eyes. As they look up to the pastel purple clouds That are painted upon a darkening sky. © 2012 Shalane Goss |
