Endlessly

Endlessly

A Poem by Shakita Slater

Blinded by darkness and six foot deep
clawing my way out of eternity
it sings in me, this fantasy
lulling me into fragile sleep

oh, what is love but a brand new tomb?
Still waiting for a body fresh and new
gravestones telling the story of me and you
crumpled roses that have lost their bloom

if my heart is truly poisoned
I beg death to comfort me

end me swiftly now

from the shadows I see my own funeral
and I watch ignoring the window panes and murals
depictions of a false god performing miracles
love has a cruel way of drawing out burials

it is you who always held the shovel
darling, let's just get this over with…

end me swiftly, please
