~Chapter 2~

It's been 3 weeks since I've transferred to the school. The only people i really talk to are Mia, Lara, Danny and Mike. I’m part of my own little group and i like it, they're good people. Everybody seems to have their own little group...Well, everyone except for Nick. Every day he sits alone. I thought maybe it was because people didn't like him, and i wondered why, but that isn't the case. I've noticed that he purposefully excludes himself from other people. I tried talking to him a few more times after my first day, ask him a few questions about himself. But with his lack of responsiveness and incredibly vague and sarcastic answers, its obvious he doesn't want me around him. Eventually i gave up, and now i just kinda say Hi to him every morning instead. but after spending 3 weeks here, I've already noticed that Nick might be the most interesting person in the world.

For a kid who daydreams and stares into space during classes, his grades are almost flawless. He never misses a homework assignment, and every test he gets back is never below 90. And then there’s his artistic ability. One day i kept catching him glancing over to me, and staring at me for a while and then looking at his paper and scribbling some stuff down. I wondered what he was doing, so i peeked over, and he was drawing me! he was actually just drawing me in his notebook. and it looked amazing too, pretty much like looking in a mirror. and in pen too, he managed to shade it and everything. After that i later found out he was the prized student of the art class. The art teacher absolutely loves him. She’s practically begged him to join the art club, but he refuses.

His reclusiveness wasn't the only strange thing. Mia and the others told me a bunch of other stuff about him too. Like whenever we change for gym he always changed in the nurses bathroom and not the boys locker room. I tried asking the nurse why because i was curious but she said that she can't tell us. And another strange thing i notice too is during gym class he always as bandages over both of his arms. Maybe he has some kind of gross disfigurement or an really ugly scar or something. during lunch Nick almost never eats too. Whenever he does he pulls out some kind of huge box of food which, by the way, looks extremely well made and delicious. He almost never eats, but when he does he consumes everything. No wonder he’s so skinny and pale, and he’s got huge bags under his eyes almost like he never sleeps. I haven't had many encounters with Nick, but that was about to soon change.

It was the end of the day, classes had just finished. normally at the end of each day two students have to stay late and clean up the classroom. you know, normal stuff like sweeping the floor, fixing the chairs, washing the chalkboard and dusting out the erasers. Today it was my turn to help clean up... and who would be helping me? You guessed it, Nick. By now everyone, even the teacher, was gone and it was just the two of us. I held a wet washcloth in my hand and started to clean off the chalkboard while Nick silently swept the ground. He seemed to be in his own little world over there, but at the same time completely concentrated on sweeping the floor. He didn't talk, didn't strike up a conversation, just stood there doing what needed to be done.

The silence was deafening...

“So Nick...” I said finally breaking that silence. I looked back at him hoping to hear some kind of response, but naturally I got nothing. I decided to assume that he heard me. “What do you usually do after school?” I asked. It was a bit of a weird question to start off with, but i didn't know what else to ask him.

“Stuff mostly...” He said without even looking up from the ground. “Sometimes i like to do a thing or two.” His answers are usually sarcastic and Vague, but that doesn't mean that sometimes they aren't funny. His responses sometimes make me giggle, and this was one of those times. “I’m glad my after school activities are amusing to you.”

“You know, i do stuff after school too...” I said smiling. “I also like to do things as well. That makes us kind of alike you and I.” i said awaiting another response from him, but i never got one. Yet again the room was plunged into another awkward silence. I continued to wash the board, but i was having trouble reaching the top of it. I’m too short to reach the top. And Nick can't help me, he’s not much taller than I am. I let out a sigh and started jumping to reach the top. It was a slow and tiring process and by the time i was halfway through a heard a sound from behind me.

“Uhm... there's a stool over there.” Said Nick. I looked over to see he was pointing to a stool over in the corner. I've noticed it there before but it had completely escaped me.

“Oh...” I said feeling embarrassed. I stood there like an idiot for a second then made my way to the corner and grabbed the bench. I brought it back and used it to clean the tops of the black boards. Once I was done I put the stool back and walked back over to open up the window. Now I've got to dust out the erasers. i took the two erasers and held them outside and started batting them together. i banged them out slowly as to make sure as chalk dust didn't blow back into my face. Once the erasers were successfully dusted out and Nick had finished cleaning the floor it was time for us to go.

We made our way down the hallway. Nick seemed to keep his head down the whole time like he was scanning the ground fro something important. I just walked next to him, looking over occasionally. The awkward walk down the hallway seemed to last forever. Eventually we reached the door. He was kind enough to hold the door open for me and we stepped outside. Cleaning took less than an hour, so it wasn't too late. I started making my way down the road when he suddenly stopped halfway down. I stopped and looked back at him. He seemed to just be glaring ahead at the gate. I didn't notice it until now, but at the end of the gate was a limo... A freaking limo.

“Whoa! Talk about a classy cab.” I said as we continued to walk down. we reached the gate and the driver side door opened up and out stepped a tall, well dressed man with slick black hair and a very proud look on his face. I looked over to Nick and he just let out a deep sigh.

“Hello Javier...” He said walking over to him.

“Hello Master Nicholas.” Replied the tall and handsome man. I just stood there soaking up everything in front of me. Did he just say, Master Nicholas? “Is this a friend of yours?” He asked looking over at me.

“I guess...” He said.

“You guess?” I said pouting.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you miss.” Said the man bowing like a real gentleman.

“So why are you here Javier?” Asked nick. “Is it father?”

“Yes it is... He wants you back home.” Nick just let out a heavy sigh. “Okay then...” He replied. “I guess i’ll see you tomorrow Anna... bye.” He said as the large well dressed, butler looking, guy opened up the back door and Nick climbed in. He closed the door returned to the front and looked at me.

“Good evening miss.” He said bowing his head slightly before getting in the car and closing the door. The car soon pulled out and was on its way down the street. I stood there now completely puzzled as to what had just happened. I guess his family must be pretty well off to be able to afford a personal driver. i mean, usually he walks home. I guess his father really wanted him to come home as soon as possible. I can only imagine what was so important that his father got a driver to come pick him up.

“Why is it every time I talk to this kid he gets more mysterious?” I thought to myself. i just decided to pick up my stuff and carry myself home. It was another half hour before i got home. The walk to and from school does take me a half hour, but its not a bad walk, so I don't mind it. It wasn't long before i got home and opened up the door. Mom and dad won't be home until later. I’m hungry, so i'm going to go get myself some food.

“Lets see...” I said wandering into the kitchen. I opened up one of the cabinets and perused all the food we had. “Hmm... Oreo’s? Nah, Cheez-It’s? Not in the mood. Barbecue potato chips? Hell yeah.” I said talking to myself. I grabbed the bag of chips and a soda form the fridge and scurried off to my room. I know most people would think that downing an entire family sized bag of barbecue chips and soda isn't something a normal girl would do, but screw that noise. I freaking love barbecue chips, so i'm gonna eat them.

The house is so quiet when its just me here. No siblings to make any noise, and no pets either. It’s just me and my parents here, but I kinda like it like this. There's a lot more personal space, and i don't have to put up with annoying brothers or sisters. Although i will admit that I sometimes wish I had a brother or sister. Hmm...I wonder if Nick has any siblings. Wait why am I thinking about Nick right now? I can't figure out that guy for the life of me. He’s an enigma wrapped in a mystery. He never talks to anybody in school. I've never seen him laugh or cry or show much emotion at all. He acts strange, and suddenly a private driver comes and picks him up in a limo? I mean, what the actual f**k? A limo, Really?

“I wonder how much a private driver and a limo would cost?” I said to myself as i entered my room. Surely enough my curiosity got the best of me and i quickly sat down at my desk and opened up my laptop and went right to the internet. When in doubt, Google it. So i Google'd how much it would cost to hire a private driver and limo. “W-what?! It costs over $5,000!” I exclaimed out loud. There's no way, I mean to spend five grand on a driver just to pick your kid up at school. Nicks parents must be loaded. Maybe they are loaded. “ghah... speaking of loaded I've got a s**t ton of homework.”

I walked over to my bag and opened it up. i took out my books and my phone, and set them down. I didn't notice it at first, but at a second glance i soon found out that the phone i had taken out of my bag wasn't actually mine. I glared at it and started to feel really nervous. did i grab somebody else's bag? I checked inside, and i found my own phone too, and all the textbooks and notebooks were mine too. Who’s phone is this? they must have accidentally placed it in my bag, since the school gives us these convenient satchel bags for school with their emblem on it. This is a super expensive phone too, its the newest model. Maybe I can open it up and call the owners home with it.

I decided to do that exact thing and switched the phone on. the lock screen popped up with what looked like a default background. Luckily there was no lock on it so i swiped it to the left and the phone opened up. I've never had a smartphone before. my phone is just a dumb flip phone, it still gets the job done though. The wallpaper was the same generic looking one, and there were lots of apps and games on it. i looked over and pressed the phone button and eventually found my way over to the contacts section. There weren't a lot of contacts on it. i scrolled down and selected home and it started to call. It started to ring...And ring, and then a click.

“Hello?” Answered a strangely familiar voice.

“Uhm...Hello, yes i was just calling from a phone i found in my bag. I think maybe somebody had placed it in there by mistake.”

“Oh good, you must be calling from the young masters lost phone.” Said the voice. “Just one moment please.” He said. He sounded like some kind of waiter or something. The other end went quiet and i waited until a familiar voice spoke up on the other end.

“Hello, who is this?” asked an even more familiar voice.

“N-nick, is that you?” I asked.

“Hey Annabelle.” He said in his usual monotonous voice. “I assume that you have my phone. I must have accidentally placed it in you're bag instead of mine when i checked it during our cleaning duty.” He said. “I apologize.”

“No no, its fine. Really.” I said.

“I’d offer to come get it, but I’m actually really busy right now.” He said.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Stuff... A few things too.” He said making me giggle a little.

“Well if you want I could bring it over.” I said.

“No that's fine, you can just return it at school tomorrow.” He said. “I’m sure that since you dialed my home number you must have gone through my contacts and noticed its sadly bare.” He said. “I don't have to worry about missing any calls, but thank you for calling and offering.”

“Oh okay then... I guess i’ll see you tomorrow then.” I said.

“Yeah... Bye.” He said then he abruptly hung up. That was a bit rude to hang up on me like that, but i guess he did say he was very busy.

Still... That’s the longest conversation I've ever had with Nick.
