January

January

A Poem by Anna
"

My thought went I looked outside

"
We knew what we were in for,
We knew this was coming.
It's all been seen before.
The winds blow in humming.
Our inevitable fate lies ahead,
This is the path we've always lead.

The first step is the worst.
Every part of me wants to turn back.
I swear this land is cursed,
As i veer ahead and panic.
I know I must finish my quest,
Or my fate is death at best.

Every second more painful than the last.
As my  limbs begin to fail.
I look for guidance in my past,
And know, like every year, I will prevail.
I will make it to the sacred defrost,
I will survive at any and all cost.

Yeah, winter in the northern hemisphere! No doubt. But you could be talking about other stuff too may be?

There is an ambiguity here that makes it more universal than a cold Canadian winter. Universalizing without losing the original inspiration is difficult and it's well done here.

To be defiant against the odds and still have confidence is a worthy character trait to embody. I like this poem.

Sometimes, the theory of life is nothing but the hallucinations of misbilief that the heart may carry to unload the load of memories every year sitting by the window.
