My Act Of Contrition

My Act Of Contrition

A Poem by Harry Mora

It's hard to break through
With those sins sealed around
They blemish everything you do

No matter how you try to change the past
The truth is blurred by old mistakes
The judgment hard, and fast

You think you finally did something right
Dusted of your soul, reached closure in your life
But just as soon; your past blocks out the light

Accused for nothing; your disgrace
Because of all the lies and sorrow
The mask that was your face

But you press on never slow never falter
Bow your head down but know
You can't kneel at the altar

You push through all the curses as they sting
Your pain and sorrow; the payment due
True redemption is not an easy thing
