In the beginning of Time
Beyond the memories of Man
During those first days
The bountiful Mother
Provided all
Food to fill his belly
Shelter from the elements
And to sustain him
The warmth of Her Love
For guidance and inspiration
Mother Earth choose three
Her most loyal creatures
Eagle, raven and wolf
Thru these loyal three
She taught the path
To the harmony of existence
And the perfection of what is right
By their example these loyal creatures
Eagle, raven and wolf
Taught Man
The Circle of Life
But then came Avarice and Lust
Man sought more than was his wont
Man took without thought
Simply he took and took
Until he forgot
The bountiful Mother and
All she offered
Became dim memories of the past
Soon to be totally forgotten
Paths lost
Harmony ignored
Perfection denied
Circle broken
Wolf, raven and wolf
Fled the world of Man
Spiritual brothers
Bound by Love
Bound by Friendship
Bound by the Silver Chain
Forged deep within the Fires
At the Heart of Mother Earth.
Ancient Brother, Golden One, Lady Raven, Old wolf
Roam the timelessness
Of the Otherside
Forever bound.
I do believe that the only way is to shed this coat and let my wings unfurl..............lift up and head in the direction of NJ at this moment....looking for my brother.
The main message here, as I see it, is mankind's disrespect for the planet. I fear what the future holds for my children and their children. Will they know the same world that I have known? It sure doesn't look like it. Those who value profit above the health of our planet and its inhabitants are the most horrible examples of greed. We will pay for their avarice, I'm afraid.
This is beautiful as both a poem and the true face of history. The words shame Mankind and the way it treats Mother Earth. A great french philospher (can't remember who) wrote - many years ago, that Man's taken from the Earth and Oceans the greatest gift of all ... the root of Life Your poem perpetuates that fact and, so very finely.
There are many lines to choose from, not sure which will linger longest in my mind, maybe, 'Man took without thought .. Simply he took and took .. Until he forgot' - how true.
I love the style in which this is written, it's as if a special Wise Soul is talking, spreading THE word, wanting to show the way with rightful criticism yet gentle persuasion.
The representation of eagle, raven and wolf intrigues me... is there more meaning?
This reminds me of the creation tale Cherokee elders tell. Yeah, we messed up -- century after century, and when the earth finally says enough is enough, we're goners for sure.
An "old man", not by choice in the sense of years since I am five years older than dirt and two years older than baseball. Age is simply a state of mind and that being the case then my mind tells me I.. more..
