Between the Lines...

Between the Lines...

A Poem by ShadowWhysper

Between the Lines…

You flirt and charm

Do your best to disarm

You say you miss me

Would love to kiss me

What would be the harm?

You pout and simper

All but whimper

Try to convince me

To let you see me

To return things as they were

You had your chance

To start romance

The offer plain to see

Friend you chose to be

And so gave up the dance

You think I don’t know

What your words don’t show

You hoped I wouldn’t see

You want to play with me

But my answer to you is “no”

You go for the pity

Say I look pretty

Hope to change my mind

By being sweet and kind

But my responses are not witty

You soon realize

That I’ve opened my eyes

You won’t get what you seek

For I am anything but meek

And you cannot win this “prize”

If your feelings are true

You have more to do

To convince me that it’s real

That you honestly do feel

And aren’t just out for you

Be careful what you say

These games I do not play

Your chances are getting slim

And desire becoming dim

Soon, it will all just fade away…

This is not your usual style, the stand alone lines that don't link up with the others takes all the flow out of this. Consider "You flirt and charm Do your best to disarm" as (You flirt and charm Then do your best to disarm) and "You say you miss me Would love to kiss me" as (You say you miss me And would love to kiss me) see how they flow together. Still a good poem.
