The Escort

I am five years old and I am dying
My soul wants freedom, I feel like crying
But I have no energy left in me
I have fought a long battle with cancer, you see
Today is my birthday, my friends are all here
It's nice to know my loved ones are near
But when I collapsed mom sent them away
The party was over, they couldn't stay
Now I lie upon my bed, growing weaker still
Holding on to this life purely by the strength of will
I'm scared to let go, but not for me
I'm worried about my parents, you see
Will they be able to carry on
With their life once I am gone
I must go, I cannot stay
An angel has come to take me away
She appears with an escort of the dove
Surrounded by the essence of love
I know my parents will be all right
God will keep them in His light
I can go now, I am at peace
My body shall die, but my soul will never cease
