Chains

Two old poems that are linked together... (pun totally intended ;-) )

Locks & Chains...

 

Tears roll unheeded and unchecked

As I think about all I have lost

All I had has now been wrecked

A misunderstanding, but at what cost?

 

Trust is betrayed once more

Walls that rise are stronger than before

The pain burns deep within my soul

Can I ever mend the hole?

 

Questioning all the choices I have made

Look at the price that I have paid

All my feelings locked in a duel

Am I wise or just a fool?

 

Once again I am all alone

Sadness fills me to the bone

Will I ever be able to let it out?

Or will I be in constant doubt?

 

Will anything be able to break these chains?

Or will I continually suffer these pains?

Will I ever feel safe to be me?

Will I ever feel free?

Broken Chains

 

The chains have loosened, few locks remain

Never shall I be their prisoner again

For I was a prisoner to what others thought

Their approval is what I sought

Now I step forward and shake off the chains

The freedom I seek has only gains

I shall open the doors that are within

And leave behind that which has been

I continue my quest for knowledge of self

Collecting the pieces like books on a shelf

Soon I will have the series that’s me

With the key of knowledge to set me free

Thank you. :-) I had been reminiscing about my older poems and decided it would be good to write a poem related to Locks and Chains to reflect how things had changed in my life at that time.
