Hunter's Pride

Hunter’s Pride

Cecil the lion lost his head

Lured from safety and now he’s dead

The hunter takes pride in what he’s done

He used both a bow and a gun

His first shot with the arrow wasn’t true

And so the lion suffered too

Yet the hunter took the head for his wall

So it could be seen and admired by all

Such a great hunter to kill a friendly foe

No true sport would have it so

It shows dishonor to bait and kill

Just for the sake of having a thrill

Cecil’s head is not a trophy of skill

Instead it is the symbol of a tragic kill

LOVE THIS! Thanks to Bear for putting your name in my ear. Why this was the first of your poems I clicked on...why Cecil the Lions death inspired me to write and share again...why I found the strength and courage to finally be me.... because what is to be WILL be.

Thank you for writing such a beautiful tribute to Cecil the lion. :)

Glad you enjoyed it. :-) It was a little different for me, normally I don't write quite so simply, .. read more
What a great way to write about the ongoing circumstances. The death really was an awful tragedy but at least the investigation is still going on. Let's hope for the best.

Tragic that the desire to have a trophy was so strong that you would resort to this, I heard this story on the news and wonder how his dentistry business has been effected. Karma is a b***h!!!
