Cecil the lion lost his head Lured from safety and now he’s dead The hunter takes pride in what he’s done He used both a bow and a gun His first shot with the arrow wasn’t true And so the lion suffered too Yet the hunter took the head for his wall So it could be seen and admired by all Such a great hunter to kill a friendly foe No true sport would have it so It shows dishonor to bait and kill Just for the sake of having a thrill Cecil’s head is not a trophy of skill Instead it is the symbol of a tragic kill
