We started out as friends

Agreeing to be lovers

And said “This is where it ends,

Feel free to seek out others”

For we were not in love

Only pleasing our desires

Putting friendship up above

Passion that expires

Through the months we’ve been there

To support each other’s needs

With understanding and with care

Our friendship still proceeds

For it above all else

Brings us closer every day

The bond between us swells

Growing in its way

We still maintain the freedom

To be just who we are

There is no pressure to become

The other’s shining star

For we started out as friends

And treat each other such

The support that this lends

Means so very much

If we were to stop being lovers

That would not be where it ends

For even above the covers

We will still remain friends

What can I say, your rhyme sequence lets your lines flow! Your word choices are smart and show you are well versed with the topic of your poem. Now a trick question for you my friend: Should passion be singular? Is it "Passion that expires" or "Passions that expires" seeing how you were sharing passion with Another?

I see what you're saying, but I was referring to sexual passion so yes, in this case, singular... If our other passions expired, the friendship may as well...
