What to Say

I am sorry that I hurt you

I never meant to make you cry

I know I cannot change the past

And so I will not try

It’s not that I regret

Those special moments spent with you

My only regret is for the pain I caused

And the hurt I can’t undo

I was so thrilled to have met you

I just don’t know what to say

The thought of being close to you

Just blew my mind away

Along with it went my worries

And thoughts of consequence

Now, too late, I realize

The terrible expense

My actions, they have caused me

To lose my relationship with you

A friendship that was building

Filled with promise, still brand new

I wish that I had told you

Right from the very start

That though you have my friendship

You cannot hold my heart

It’s not that I don’t like you

I think you’re very sweet

Our paths in life may cross

But they will never meet

This is not of my own making

The feelings just aren’t there

I hope that you can understand

It’s not that I don’t care

I wish I could have saved you

All the heartache and the pain

I would do it differently

If I could do it all again

But life you must live forward

And learn along the way

I know this does not stop the hurt

I just don’t know what to say

Standing O! It is nice to read a poem that is all there. To often people only write part of the story like they think everyone is in their head and knows what they are writing about. But this, it flows and with emotional depth, also anyone who reads this will understand what you are writing about. Maybe you should write out some helpful tips for some of the other poets

Wow. I felt that 100% I can just see yourself and myself having this conversation with the person in mind face to face or having thoughts of how everything played out. I enjoyed it a lot. I could feel the emotion.

Thank you. I find it easier to express myself through written word rather than spoken word. Perhaps it is the time taken for reflection when writing that helps me more clearly express what it is I want to say.
