Chapter Seven - Past

Chapter Seven - Past

A Chapter by ShadowHaze

Alex walked out of the room, out of the stunned atmosphere. I followed behind her, grabbing her hand. “Alex! Alex, stop!!” I said to her.
She spun around, “What?” she snarled. She had so much contempt in her voice that I let go of her hand, and backed up one step, out of shock.
I began to shake on the spot, small tremors that passed through my body. When I touched her hand, it was so cold; I was surprised, that she hadn’t said something about it. Hadn’t said anything…. Of course she would say something about it, or she would at least be shivering! She stood tall, straight and strong, not ONE shiver passed through her. Again, I thought, “An evil ghost, or her own evil side?”
If it was her own feelings, I was deeply surprised, and scared. If it was an evil ghost… I didn’t want to think about it. I had no idea what I had to do to get the spirit out of her.
What was I going to do? If it was a ghost possessing her, of course she would say she was ok… If it was herself, she would still say that she was ok… How would I know?? I groaned and just fell back with the group, trudging behind them, with my head down, thinking.
“You ok?” Heather asked me.
I looked at her, “I… Yea, I’m fine.”
She didn’t look convinced, “Ok… But if you need anything, I’m here, if you need of course.” I nodded slightly, to show I heard, and then went back to my own thoughts.
After a moment of silent thinking walking next to Heather, I spoke quietly, “What if it’s her, that’s “evil”? What if it was a lie? What if she never did love me? What if…” My voice trailed off.
Heather touched my arm sympathetically. “It’ll be ok. Remember? We’re in a haunted house… Anything can happen.” As soon as she said that, a bloodcurdling scream split the night.
Another scream, and then another. I rushed forward to see Alex on the ground, twitching and shaking horribly, still screaming. No one could get with five feet of her. “What happened?” I shouted over Alex’s terrible screams.
“We don’t know!” shouted one guy.
Alex was still twitching on the ground. Abruptly she stopped screaming. The silence scared me more then her screams.
A pool of moonlight suddenly surrounded her, and her face was lit up. She was pale, and a thin sheet of sweat covered her face and neck. Without warning, right over Alex’s heart, a large black something rose from her chest. It raised half a foot from her and then melted into the air.
Alex moaned and her head tilted to the side. “Alex?” I whispered.
“What?” she groaned.
“You ok?”
She looked up at me and smiled weakly, “Yea… Are you? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost,” she laughed weakly.
I sighed with relief, and bent down to pick her up in my arms, without answering her.
