The Longest NightA Story by ShadowFox aka PierceA soldiers wait.I stand there in the darkness, armament in hand. The cold chill of metal, from the vehicle I lean against. The gently blowing sands, dancing in the wind. All is silent but the fire of arms in the distance, and the ever growing tension between comrades. A chill runs down my spine as the sound of a bomb bursting echoes. I close my eyes a moment, recalling the last time I saw my family, relishing the sound of my wife's voice, even if just a faded memory now. The sounds of battle gently creep closer, growing louder. "The fronts moving..." I hear over the com. "Orders were to wait." A voice replied. And as orders were, I stood there, waiting, heart racing. This was my longest night. © 2011 ShadowFox aka PierceFeatured Review
