PrologueA Chapter by Stephen LaPradDr. Turner and Sebastian Graham work towards creating a better future...Prologue The dark room reeked of the musty stench of smoke and gasoline. Dr. Evan Turner and his
partner Sebastian Graham worked steadily on the
machine that they had been developing over the past seven years. They had spent years of planning and creating methods to complete their device, concentrating for hours on end developing theorems and theories to make their designs function correctly. Time and time again they would test their machine, but to no avail. But failure forges victory, and after dangerous trials and procedures, they truly believed they were closing in on a solution. In building their elaborate machine, the two
of them had gotten unwanted attention from the outside world. They had no funds
to construct their masterpiece so they
stole the parts they needed. Both Sebastian and Dr. Turner had no second thoughts for the consequences
that might entail. The
only thought in their minds was to complete the dream the two
of them had made so long ago. They were the first of their kind and the closest in the history of humanity to come to a definite solution to the ancient problem that could fix all wrong, to redo every mistake, and to win every loss. They
were constantly on the run and many people tried to steal their ideas. They were criminals in every nameable
country and despite the severity of the people after them, they
were able to continue the work they had made for themselves. Dr. Turner and Mr. Graham had finally deemed that
their machine could handle a test
subject, but they had little time left to properly find one. They had been in Brazil for over a month, and they knew that the bounty hunters and
the Brazilian officers were closing in on them. “We don’t have time to waste,” began Dr. Turner as he plucked and reconnected
wires to several outputs and inputs, “We need a subject now, before they take our work away. Graham looked at the machine they had finally completed, “We can’t let others
take credit for what we’ve accomplished. We test it now!” “But without a subject..?” Graham sighed, “Hook me up, we must know if it works.” “But we are not ready, you could
die!” explained Dr. Turner. “They're going to kill us anyways, just do it.” Graham said as he remembered all the crimes
they had committed to finalize their great invention. They had
murdered several people when they attempted to steal their plans, stole parts that costed millions and broken into a high security government facility in the middle of an unnameable desert to steal
special chemicals. “But still, what if we break the machine in the process!” “ Look we don’t
have the time, shut up and hook me up to the machine already.” Dr. Turner hesitated, but then took the wires
and punctured his partner’s skin with them. He then rushed over to his computer and typed in several
codes. He flipped a large
switch that turned on their machine and the darkened room brightened with a blue light. The machine consisted of several metal
boxes with hundreds of wires stuffed inside
connected to a metal bed, which was then connected to Dr. Turner’s
partner. The bed itself had
tubes running from its underside that were filled with highly combustible
fluids that attached to a main control panel.
From the outside
their small lab in the middle of the slums of Belize, Dr. Turner and Sebastian heard the Brazilian police slam on their door.
“Open the door before we break it down!” one of the
officers yelled. “Hurry!” shouted Graham. “I'm going as fast as I can! Be quiet and let me
focus before we have these half brained cops up our asses.” The police broke down the door and stormed in.
They filled the entire room and blocked their
escape. “Dr. Turner!” shouted the officer who seemed to be in charge, “It’s
all over.” Dr. Turner smiled, “No, It’s just the
beginning,” he then slammed his hand on a large red
button and the entire room watched as Mr. Sebastian Graham
vanished in a bright light sending him back in time… © 2016 Stephen LaPrad |
