ANOTHER NEW YEAR'S HERE

ANOTHER NEW YEAR'S HERE

A Poem by Shabeeh Haider
"

"I wait outside the mansion door, come lets fulfill our dream"

"

Another year in life has gone, another New Year’s here,

I’ve kept for you the things you love, but now you are not near.

You said the day you don’t see me, the sun that day won’t rise,

Long years have passed but every day, it brightens up the skies.

We used to chase few butterflies; we used to bathe in streams,

And every night with open palms, we used to catch moonbeams.

We peeped inside the huge mansion, a mansion for a king.

My head would be placed on your lap, and gently you would sing.

You loved the mansion and the fields; you loved the sky above,

And as for me all that you liked, with that I fell in love.

Another year in life has gone, another New Year’s here,

I’ve kept for you the things you love, but now you are not near.

A mighty prince from yonder land, had  landed from the sky.

He bought the mansion and the fields, now what else would he buy?

The girl who sang in open fields, who used to catch moonbeams,

She flew with him to yonder land, he even bought our dreams.

The mansion and the fields are here, so is the stream and sky,

You left me and you left them all, you didn’t say goodbye.

You said the way that you loved me; no one could love me more,

If that is how a woman loves, what else could be in store?

Another year in life has gone, another New Year’s here

I’ve kept for you the things you love, but now you are not near.

I bought the mansion and the fields; your name hangs at the door,

And anything that you could want, I’m ready to buy more.

But you can never ever find, a love like mine, so true,

Love has no price, and once it’s lost there’s nothing you can do.

My ears still hear you sing that song, besides the flowing stream,

I wait outside the mansion door, come lets fulfill our dream.

And as I sit out in the fields, with all that you hold dear,

Another year in Life has gone, another New Year’s here.

Shabeeh Haider,
"Another New Year's here" speaks to me of the beginning of a long needed change for both of the characters. What was wrong under the surface that did not work in the relationship? Why did the lady allow herself bought? Why did the man allow it? I do not have the answers......It brought to my mind the complexities between people in every relationship and how we muddy the waters by making what can be lovely and simple crooked and confusing. Well I will be quiet now as this went on a little long. Bless you on a really interesting and delightful poem! Kathy

Kathy, this is a true tale of young lovers who thought nothing could ever come between them.

This is one of your best poems that I've read so far. This sad story is very powerfully told. It's kind of twisted, the way the narrator appears to be so blind to what really matters in life & in love . . . yet I also realize you set him up to be an example of pure hopefulness (from his point of view) while we readers may see it as pure hopelessness. I like the parallel language from stanza to stanza, well done with the slight twists each time.

The melancholy of this write hits hard. The rhyming is sublime. People should not have a price, but, alas, too often money is the reason people are together. Love should be precious enough to be priceless, but some people do not know what true love is. A great write. Lydi**

Very wise words, Lydia and thank you for your beautiful comment
A heartbreaking tale - also a cautionary one of shallow, flaky lovers.
The repeated refrain only adds to the sadness as the reader pictures the guy alone ...waiting...

Good writing Shabeeh

wow, another bought her heart...and he didn't have enough wealth to give her...yet the most important, most priceless thing, true love...she will no longer have...real life does not get bought or sold...
it comes from deep in the heart!

Jacob, you have said it so correct. True love can never be bought.
