A HUNTER IN THE DARK

A HUNTER IN THE DARK

A Poem by Shabeeh Haider

At night when half the world’s asleep,

And those awake, in sins rejoice,

My eyes can see the darkest line,

My ears can hear the faintest noise.

I sit perched high up on a tree,

I watch her moves and bide my time,

And when she thinks that all is safe,

I swoop down and complete my crime.

I strike when she is least aware,

My talons pierce deep in her flesh.

And when I suck out her life’s breath,

I’m born anew, I feel so fresh.

I rule the world when it is dark,

I do not need the sun and light.

The darkness makes my hunger rise,

I need to taste her flesh tonight.

You are not wrong Jeannette. Vampires lurk in human form as well
What a beautiful poem. Lovely descriptions. Rhythmic as always. Carries a dual meaning. I'll call it captivating and intoxicating- i could feel the things. That is how it is meant to be- poems are meant to be felt. Keep writing.

A falconer's foray or something much more sinister, an obscure stalker taking flight. Imagery is stunningly dark.

Paloma, thank you for review
eerie piece...there are those who are like night stalkers....they creep up in the shadows and attack the unaware...i see this more figuratively than literally...
nicely done...

I guessed that Twilight impressed you. Good luck
The utter concept of Vampires and Flesh-Eaters and all that we have read before in different books and seen in different movies have all nicely fitted within the boundary of your words. A good read, once again. Thank you for sharing!

Stealthily through the night, finding prey out of sight, quick death his delight. Dark write, i like it.
