If love was all, I'd be the wall,
That stops the storm that hits your shore.
I'd let no trouble reach your door.
I'd block the pain that comes your way,
And in my shade, you'll safely stay.
Each time you stumble, grab this wall,
I'll see to it, you will not fall.
If love was all...
I'd be the tree with branches spread,
No rain or snow would touch your head.
The winds of sorrow, sleets of pain,
Would never touch your life again.
Should trouble come, give me a call,
And in my arms you will not fall.
If love was all...
Your sorrow and your tears, I'll buy,
And everything that makes you cry.
And in exchange, with you would be,
All smiles and laughter, life gave me.
The joys I have, please take them all,
The days you live should be a ball.
If love was all...
I'm usually not very wild about love poems, becuz they all sound the same with common clichés . . . that being said, this is the rare delightful surprise! I love this message! It's so original & lyrical & imaginative. I love the way the narrator conveys such confidence & protection, which is so hard to find in my experience. So often, people write about love and it's all about "self" -- what the beloved makes the narrator feel. But I love that your message is mainly about the other person, what the narrator would do to be a good loving friend & companion. I also love the analogies you chose (wall & tree) -- it's great the way you carried the imagery thru each of the stanzas with clarity & consistency. This is one of the best poems of yours that I've read so far.

Barleygirl, thank you for your very encouraging words
The poem is powerful and I liked the want and the needs in the words.

If love was all.....we would all love to find a person who protects us and loves us from all the sufferings.....and in turn be their wall....loved the way you have penned it ....in love we wish only happiness for our loved ones...only wish their life is filled with smiles even if we have to suffer a bit for them...we would happily do it for them....that is why love is all that is required to make life beautiful :) I like the way you write simple sweets poems :)
That is love. Protecting, giving, cherishing, nourishing , helping, saving, ...love IS all.
Some people are that wall and some lucky ones are the ones staying inside it. You say it all so lovingly and it so touches the heart ... I wish every one has that wall that keeps them safe.
An encompassing poem with all the aspects of love. A song of sweetness and serenading. Many can safely stay and enjoy every word of this wonderful poem. Thank you for sharing with us , si Haider...:)............
To want everything soft, sweet, and perfect for the one you love....yes, we all wish that. Unfortunately some things are not within our control. Such gloriously romantic words here, Shabeeh. I enjoyed the rhyming and the repetition of the phrase "If love was all"....if only! Wonderful work. Lydi**
This was a gorgeously written work, with the smooth flow, structure, and rhymes. Sweet and touching, a great portrait of love. I wish I could see more of this kind of writing on this site. Beautifully done.
Sweetly penned. This work is a journey through a large garden of affection and love. This journey is adorned by rhyme, balance, flow, repetition and other poetical stuff and with eminently deep emotions, feelings and thoughts. A lovely piece. Keep writing.

Thank you so much Vatsal for a very encouraging review
damn! yes yes...this profession of exactly what love is...giving our all to someone else, placing that person's importance and needs far above our own. nicely done.
Writing poetry is my passion. I have been writing since I was 10 years of age. I love the poets of the Romantic Era and am very particular about rhyme, meter and balance.
I have also written many Gha.. more..
