I WANTED A DROP

I WANTED A DROP

A Poem by Shabeeh Haider

I wanted a drop you, sent me the sea,

I asked for a leaf, you gave me the tree.

I asked for some hope, you sent me a dream,

To bathe in your love, you sent me a stream.

I asked for a rose, you showed me your smile,

I took a small step, you moved back a mile.

I asked for a tear, you sent me the rain,

I wanted to write, you sent me the pain.

Your ending line looked like a punch line to me.
I liked your poem very very much,
It is true that writing comes from pain and regret, it becomes powerful when it passes through these
factors. My first ever story is about a writer who writes because of the pain he is going through. Regret is the powerful tool he has to fill soul in his writing.
Thanks for sharing this poem with us.

The whole this is great, but loved the last line the most. What writer cannot understand that? Great write!

I am glad you enjoyed this poem. Thank you for taking time to read and review.
Your first stanza clearly speaks of the great love that has been given, more than expected, enough to sustain one for eons but then in the second stanza a striking difference is presented as love was indeed given but with it came a price that has been paid with angst. Rain cleanses but cannot fill in the deep furrows created when one steps back to such a distance. And now to write of is all one can do, but the memory is there!
Lovely words birthed from the experience of loving and losing that love!
I too find that it is the pain in life that gives me cause more often than the happiness......yes, pain that splits the soul cannot be discarded without expressing it in some way!

Ah so good to come back after a while and read a new poem by Shabeeh Haider. I will share this, it is really good. "I wanted to write, you sent me the pain." - this begs the question is experiencing pain necessary to be a writer. "I took a small step, you moved back a mile." Was your step away from her/him/it or toward her/him/it?

WOW, I absolutely loved this poem! The juxtaposition of small and large, of near and far, of damp and deluge.....it is so effective. The rhyming is superb and the words flow so well. Yes, there are times pain gives us the inspiration to write, but more often it is happiness and romance for me. This is one of your best writes. Lydi**
