WOMAN IN TRANSITION

WOMAN IN TRANSITION

A Poem by Shabeeh Haider

Hail fell on her and so did sleet,

Men trampled her under their feet.

The wind would blow dust in her eyes,

And lightning fell down from the skies.

Life’s heavy rain had made her wet,

And who she loved had made her fret.

Then from those ashes she would rise,

Mature in years and much more wise,

She is a mother, daughter, wife,

She runs this cycle, we call life.

The strength that she has in her soul,

Has helped her move towards her goal.

No man can face what she can bear,

The strength she has, we’re unaware.

How can she fall and yet can rise?

Her inner strength, few can surmise.

Her outer beauty, man will seek,

But what’s inside, makes her unique.

Author's Note

Shabeeh Haider
A friend here here did not agree with one of the messages my poem conveyed and she followed it up with an article that was very distressing. What life teaches us is how we accept situations and writings. It was distressing because a father who is supposed to be the shelter and castle that protects his daughter was the one who had violated her.
I dedicate this poem to that sweet friend of mine.

This is a very deep poem with excellent rhyming as always. The flow is smooth and the message conveyed is strong. It is quite common to see that girls and women are exploited and not given equal rights and treatment as that to boys and men. Gender equality is a necessity. Having said that, I would particularly stress on "equality". It shouldn't be like women are given advantages over men, merely to counter the old tradition of patriarchy. No, both should have equal rights and status. This a nice poem. Keep writing.

This poem is incredibly moving and has such depth.
The technical strengths of the poem are precise with rhyming and meter...flow makes it a lyrical read.

Thank you for sharing.

Always a pleasure x
I really like this poem. The rhyme scheme is cool, and for the most part you do an excellent job of maintaining the rhythm of the lines. I absolutely love the final stanza - every one of the ideas expressed in it is powerful and inspirational. I like the way the second line of each couplet works with the others: "The strength she has, we're unaware... Her inner strength, few can surmise... But what's inside, makes her unique." The rhythm is also particularly solid in this stanza. Thank you for sharing this inspiring piece. Nicely done!

S. Mi, thank you for your words
women are just stronger than men...they rebound and rebuild...

and after succumbing to such violation.....find a way to take the bad and turn it into strength and good.

this poem speaks volumes...

Yes, Jacob. This is how it is.

***TEARS*** . . . Thank you so much for this unbelievable tribute. I've never had any such tender, understanding gift like this in my life before. I was deeply blessed with an innate strong spirit and articulate mind, but the silent hoards of abused are fragile and mute and have no way to let the world know how it can feel to be mortally wounded, but still dragging oneself thru life. It kills me when the strong ones suggest that the weak ones "should be" something they simply cannot be. Thank you for building a fire inside me to write my piece, and then this quenching drink of water that your poem here has given to allay my thirst (((HUGS)))
