Written a few months before my mother's death. It was all so sudden
I held your hand
and said goodbye,
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.
This heart will burst, these eyes will cry,
You won’t be there to wipe them dry.
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.
.
Your eyes have
lost their sparkling light,
Your skin is turning pale and white.
I see each day this painful sight.
Hold on to life, give it a try,
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.
,
I turn away, I
have to leave,
It’s still not time, but yet I grieve.
So many memories to retrieve,
Before my eyes past moments fly,
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.
.
Today will turn to
yesterday,
I watch each moment slip away.
We all will go, no one will stay.
But still this heart lets out a cry,
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.
I say this honestly and without exaggeration - this poem nearly made me cry. It is so beautifully written, but about such a terrible and painful topic. That combination gives it a vividness that breaks my heart. The rhythm is maintained perfectly throughout literally every single line. The rhyme scheme is also flawlessly executed. I love every line of this poem for its sincerity of emotion - well, love and also hate it, because it expresses so much pain and I know that this happened to a REAL PERSON, to you. However, if I have to pick out the lines that touched me the most, they would be "This heart will burst, these eyes will cry, / You won't be there to wipe them dry"... "I turn away, I have to leave, / It's still not time, but yet I grieve. / So many memories to retrieve, / Before my eyes past moments fly, / Don't leave me mom, please do not die"... and "Today will turn to yesterday, / I watch each moment slip away. / We all will go, no one will stay / But still my heart lets out a cry." I am blown away by your skill in expressing the depth of emotion behind this piece. I offer you whatever condolences I can, and know that, even though we've never actually met, my heart truly hurts for you. This poem is an excellent and beautiful tribute to your mother. Thank you for sharing this.

Shabeeh Haider,
"DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE"
" I held your hand and said goodbye." First of all; this is all important, you had the chance to be with her a final time. This one line really meant a lot!
She must of been so precious, seen in the line regarding the window of her soul: "Your eyes have lost their twinkling light. Your connection with her as a son from youth is beautiful in this one line.
Love shines! "It's still not time but yet I grieve." The message is clear and not taken for granted for a minute!
The reality of yesterday's memories as real as today is spoken is this line of grace: "Today will turn to yesterday."
Bless you for sharing your personal journey. We all share this common pathway. Your mother was a precious Lady and I know she would of been proud to know you loved and shared your sentiments and poetry concerning her.
blessings,
Kathy
A very sad but wonderfully written poem...having lost both of my parents and now my husband, I can feel just what you were going through. Valentine

I am sorry for your loss. Life must be very lonely once you have lost your close ones.
But death is the truth of life and we have to carry on with their memories and their blessings.
I wish you all the best. My prayers and well wishes to you. May God always give you a reason to smile and to be happy.
Having a mother pass is hard enough as it is, but watching the whole process of watching them die day by day makes it so much harder. Very good writing. Thanks for the great read.

Our Mother's spirit is always there to guide our

Mom holds a world for us. It is impossible to let go of that world.
To those who have lost their mothers: May the Almighty grant her eternal peace and make Heaven her permanent abode.
To those who still have their mothers with us: May the Almighty grant us the ability to serve them and love them as ideal children.

A wonderful prayer for mothers. I can just say "Amen" and I wish you the best
Excellent straightforward message to your dying mom. I am very sorry for your loss (((HUGS))) You have described the feelings we all might have, when faced with a similar situation. Your rhyming is good & the tone of pleading is appropriate & well-conveyed. I'm especially fond of the 3rd stanza, becuz we do grieve long before the actual end . . . the slow wasting away is the worst part. Very poignant & full of feeling.
Writing poetry is my passion. I have been writing since I was 10 years of age. I love the poets of the Romantic Era and am very particular about rhyme, meter and balance.
