I Get High (I Still Get By)A Poem by Sgammato [Inertia The Musical]Liberty is an underage drinker, yet she criticizes Token for smoking marijuana. Token gives her a lesson on laws: which ones we should follow, and why.I Get High (I Still Get By) TOKEN: When cops say “Robbers, don’t take Token’s stuff” that law is for us When cops say “Rapists, don’t touch Jessica” that law is for us But when Liberty’s limited by uninhibited ‘War on Drug’ jargon Tellin’ me I can’t light up in my home? That law is not for us You smell it and I can get locked up? F**k that! That law’s definitely not for us! Just leave me be and then you’ll see I’m fine without all the fuss ‘Cuz baby I get high, and I still get by. I get high, and I still get by Wonder why when those Oxies, Roxies, and other Toxic drugs cause addiction And alcoholics criticize pot? Such a contradiction! Just please don’t spam me with anti-drug concocted pot fiction ‘Cuz Baby I get high, and I still get by. Lord I’m tellin’ ya I get high, and I still get by. Baby I get high, and I still get by. Lord I’m tellin’ ya I get high, and I still get by. Face is glowing, easygoing life, although somewhat taboo Time is slowing, still not knowing what I’m put here to do [Spoken] Liberty, sometimes we have to pick and choose which laws to follow, because not all laws are made for us. © 2011 Sgammato [Inertia The Musical] |
