Fruits of Deception

Fruits of Deception

A Poem by Sgammato [Inertia The Musical]
"

Quina returns to the church to find her priest/rabbi/imam drunk. He offers a confession explaining how he feels about his job.

"
Fruits of Deception

PRIEST/RABBI/IMAM:

Quina, I've got a confession to make
It's been too long, and I don't know
how much more my soul can take.

Quina, I've got a confession to make:
I've done so wrong, and I don't know
how much longer till my soul will break

I've known for some time
that this whole thing's a charade
It is too bad, but the sad truth is
the truth is too terrible to take

So we make believe
No sorrows for the naive
No pestilence or depression
We know they need it
so we feed 'em
so we reap
The fruits of deception!
Fruits of deception!

My job is to offer comfort
to the depressed
Mumble a blessing and they'll think
life is easier to digest

Ignorance is bliss, you see,
they're happier this way
It is too bad, but the sad truth is
the truth is too terrible to take

So we make believe
No sorrows for the naive
No pestilence or depression
We know they need it
so we feed 'em
so we reap
The fruits of deception!

Fruits of deception!
We know they need it
so we feed 'em
so we reap
The fruits of deception!

I liked the format of this poem, stands out from others in my opinion. I personally like the title though, 'Fruits of Deception'. Reminds me how you can learn a thing or two from bad things happening. 'Ignorance is bliss, you see, ' Very true, in some cases, the less you know, the happier you are. To put it all together, great write!
