Kahuwai

Kahuwai

A Poem by Seyi Ojenike
"

Often, the news of someone's death comes as a shock to the receiver. So was the news of his death, after we had planned to keep in touch during the holidays following an exhausting semester.

"
For Solomon Kahuwai Dambo

Kahuwai dead?
I gape at the instance of the news.
Somehow
Hurls me into serious depression.
The earth should deny you!
Pull you out by the ankle.
Surely
The air wouldn't.
Why should the earth take you?
You
Who is still agile
... burns me.
