Poison Green

Poison Green

A Poem by Katy D.

I wanna sleep in your arms and I won't cause the harm

And I won't be surprised if I wake up and find

That the place where I thought our bodies had to lie

His body: Like the darkened imprisonment of sanctuary

The warm embrace that exists to encase

A heart that's scorned by an unholy place

It isn't a lie but somehow so deceiving

The radiant eyes of an emerald gleaming

The embrace of illusion to a pitiful face

Heart-felt but half-empty for he's still contained

He'll never belong to me the half-crazed

The crook of his neck upon which she bedecks

Her head and lips as she gives him a peck

And as I turn away from her

I hear the silence of faces slurred

It seems to me in my eyes of green

There's something missing from this scene

Here's the picture I envy and learn

And yet his lips are stained from hers

Swimming in a heat they believed to be so sweet

How remarkably amusing to find out he was a cheat

Those radiant eyes of poison green

Were swimming only in a scheme

And so I think at least it's not me

Suffering in those eyes of green

There's the picture of a dissipated fizz

And now her lips are stained from his
