You Took My Coat

You Took My Coat

A Poem by Seventh Fallen

It’s cold out here

But I’ll do it alone

I don’t want your help

I don’t need you home

It’s Friday night

But I’m fine on my own

It never mattered to you

Through these years you’ve shown

How to be the worst thing in my life

It was never enough just to say that you loved me

I tried so hard to keep you close

And now it’s cold outside and you took my coat

I’ve fallen down

But now I’m not so scared

I’ve picked myself up

Without you here

When I forget

That look on your face

Disappointed in you

That’s all you’d ever say

To be the worst thing in my life

It was never enough just to say that you loved me

I tried so hard to keep you close

And now it’s cold outside and you took my coat

I’m staring out the window

To watch your footprints fade away

As the snow splinters down

The glass fogs by my face

Maybe I’m hoping you’ll come back

Thinking maybe you’ll turn around

An hour in

Holding my hands on the window-sill

To be the worst thing in my life

It was never enough just to say that you loved me

I tried so hard to keep you close

And now it’s cold outside and you took my coat

To be the worst thing in my life

It was never enough just to say that you loved me

I tried so hard to keep you close

And now it’s cold outside and you took my coat
