Standstill

Standstill

A Poem by Seriana

Standstill

There is no angst in a shadowed eve,

not like a night without frilly sound

curled up in velour and chill with a little bit of warmth.

The whispers of twilight

creep in a silent waterfall drop

of strength-binding will to forget the forgotten

less it overfill.

The softness of a distant, roiling rill

tranquil violins all around to…

ward off manufactured threats of night?

wrapped up tight against the fear of ill…

Ill speaking of another world

running down the ley lines of this life,

tracing the calm and crackle until…

Until the time of this moment comes to fulfil,

still with dip and swish of a quill

In the quiet and peace

of a still-ness on this solo rolling hill,

the one where there is alone,

instilled,

a house stood firm and still…

…because I know what it’s like to be in that place

Now this one speaks to me. It comes from a deeply guarded place I know. But isn't that what it's really all about? Missives giving insight to our own secretly guarded places? True or not, I feel the expression of this place, and your ink transports me. Grateful you allowed me to join you there.

Sitting at the edge of a cliff path, looking outwards over a madness of sea, doing its own thing.. as self is.. is breath-taking. By doing that, breeze and dog companions, give an absolute sense of being alone.. facing 'things' alone, not worrying what comes next. I did just that... and I didn't mind. Was a feeling of absolute isolation between self and the all around. Your words enhance that feeling right now.

You and I could or might make the same feelings live and last Perhaps.

There are so many times in that place, so much of it. And I don't mind, either.

This is full of delightfully moody, delicate, nuance, and rapt description; a real pleasure to read. F.

Thank you Fabian! Appreciate your kindness...
Beautiful poetic expression in this piece, lovely choice of language and fine imagery. You took me there

with a dip and swish of a quill, love that line, the movement in it.

The whole piece gives me a feeling of stillness and appreciation of a calm setting. Getting away from it all to let the mind recover. I enjoyed my visit Seriana.

Thank you kindly, Chris.
There is a book by a Scottish mountaineer, (Where I live) called Find Beauty and Be Still. In a certain sense this could, I think be applied to this. Or perhaps more find beauty and think about it. This is advice on how not to be overwhelmed by our own minds.

Only a person who has experienced the beauty of silence and stillness can write this long and deep. Very nice!

"Be still and know," as the familiar psalm begins. That's the spirit I detect running under the words of this offering. The speaker seems to know the value of reaching a still, strong space in consciousness to keep from being overwhelmed by the urgencies of the world. In the current time, such a resource cannot be overvalued.
