Elsewhere

Elsewhere

A Poem by Seriana

Elsewhere

Ribbed-line trim down the edge with bargain four-holed buttons,

on a sweater meant for warmth.

To keep her wrapped against the things she sensed from...

Elsewhere.

Patience...

The voices were somewhat muffled whispers,

filling the silence of a gap,

with the hum of a fan spinning in the nearby.

The grey of the sky brought a weary smile,

one that comforted in a cold way,

a chill way that was insecure to the safe.

A threat to the safe haven intermingled in the mess of a day.

She hears his voice in a whisper not far away.

But them?

Them all around,

oblivious to her awareness

as they carried on in unreserved conversations.

So,

she watched,

and waited.

Waiting for the notice,

the smile,

or smirk of recognition...

She looks up, then,

and there it is.

That gentle smile... and the wink of a handsome one looking back,

the one that started it all.

And the world stops for a moment.

All the sound sucked out in a woosh as their eyes meet,

and lock,

frozen in the moments of breath.

She looks away to break the contact,

Nervous on the inside of being discovered,

staring around,

elsewhere unnoticed...thinking of him.

The rest?

they’re all wearing the same thing,

the spaces all squared up in blue,

and boring.

What a story to be told on this day,

The knowing of two,

when smiles and winks

lead to memories of gasped breaths and tender presses

beneath folded sheets and strength untold,

during beginnings of private whispers and soft kisses,

elsewhere from here.

Right in the middle of your third stanza I realized I was holding my breath, unable to exhale for fear of losing my place. That is how your poem today held onto me. What a beautiful and sensual story that really touches the heart of the reader and allows them to be a part of this hoped for meeting with the happy ending. Wonderfully done.

Here we find you weaving a tapestry of sensory detail and emotional resonance, painting a vivid portrait of longing and anticipation. The vivid description of the sweater with its ribbed-line trim and bargain buttons sets the scene, grounding the reader in a tangible world of warmth and comfort. The interplay of sound and silence further enhances the atmosphere, with the voices of others contrasted against the hum of a nearby fan, creating a sense of isolation amidst the crowd. The moment of connection is rendered with exquisite tension, as their eyes meet and the world seems to stand still. Through evocative imagery and lyrical language, you capture the magic of fleeting encounters and the yearning for intimacy that transcends the mundane. WONDROUS. 🤍🤍🤍

This is absolutely love at first sight. It happens at least once with each of us. And the feelings you described here are so real. I remembered when I first saw her. I was like turned into stone. And first word that came out from the mouth was wow!

So glad you enjoyed!
like two pretty coloured flowers set within a much more plain and rather dull field of rye, both gravitated towrds eachother and as the old cliche goes, ' the rest is history '..

Am enchanting love poem, brimming with chivraly and good old fashioned romance! 🥰

My goodness, at first I didn't know where you were going, but then I recognized elements of me in your character. The initial shyness, the reluctance to admit or commit, but then the realization that it was meant to be. That you Seriana.
Take care n- Dave

So glad you enjoyed, Dave! Thanks for the review
Captivated by this piece. Starts off chilly, with some suspense and then the temperature picks up. Beautifully sensual and much enjoyed Seriana. Smiles and winks can certainly get things started. All the best.
