…the flames move without a sound,

not a pop, snap, nor crackle,

but to the side a silent twinkle

out of the small lights beyond straight sight…

The hushed quiet of the moment is deafening,

as one comes to the pages end.

Pause to reflect…the held breath…

…stay still to protect against the cold,

so unusual for this,

for us,

in a room of two with only the one.

She sighs,

long breathed at the end,

content to have read and had the last word,

solitary fulfilment,

final end

to the page of this book,

Finishing a good book. . . Sometimes it's amazing, it can leave you in chaos, or stupor, wishing for more, or such finality that we just sit jaw opened, as if hit in the head with a hammer. It's like saying a goodbye to a newish friend that you really enjoyed, knowing that even though you might visit again, there will never be new words between you. Excellent writing

Everything has an ending, a book, a movie, a fabulous meal and yes, we all do need some time to dwell on what we just experienced but the good thing is, an ending often means a new beginning and that can be exciting. Really cool piece Seriana
